My Two Wishes...

I love GalCiv2. It's taken me away from many things I should be working on, but it's so... good...

Anyway, the two big things I would like to see in the near future are as follows...

1. Fleet attacks seem a little strange at times. The game functions well, but when I find a good ol' Lucky Ranger the system seems a little odd. Enemy fleets always throw themselves at that Ranger, which, in the early-to-mid-game, are WAY powerful. This means the rest of my fleet hides behind the ranger. I understand this from my own fleet's perspective, but I would think the enemy would be about maximizing damage. My ranger just kept absorbing all the hits with its armor, and any HP damage it did take was quite minimal. Is there a way to change fleet attack methods, either manually or automatically? That would be an awesome feature directly relevant to gameplay. But for the icing on the cake...

2. A play-by-play summary a la Civ4. I love watching those maps at the end of Civ4 games, and considering how much more dynamic GalCiv2 is, it would be so much more interesting to review in the postgame. Failing that, some sort of big event logger... When the big power in the galaxy gets taken down a notch, put out some GNN update or some such. Getting a better idea on when people declare war w/o going to the treaties screen every turn would also be most welcome. I guess this is a bit more than just one thing here, but overall I would just like to see more info available.

Great game, and I want more! I'm achin' to get 1.1 and beyond.

You do get more notices as you get more espionage experience - But I agree that you don't get enough. It is tiresome to have to check the Foriegn Relations screen every turn to see if a war is in progress. I don't like to trade all the time, and end up forgetting to check for long stretches of the game.

A few games ago the Drath surrendered ---- and I never even knew they were fighting anyone. Ended up opening up the back door to my empire.

Yeah, you get the info somewhat reliably after you blunk in lots of change to the ol' espionage box, but I'd LOVE to see some info in "news story" form, but I can understand how that would be a pain to put that in. But you gotta figure, if the UP meetings occur reliably, wars should be pretty common knowledge. Who declares what on who should be clear, but who is pulling the strings... Well, you can figure that out yourself.
