Achilles' Heel Mission

Hi I have been browsing these forums for a while and I think there very helpful so Im hoping I can get some help too.. 
The Achilles heel mission is really tough I have been buying tech for the first 2 planets also colony ships to quickly get out there and colonise but it seems just as im going to get comfy the DL's come in like wildfire almost as soon as we start trading with freighters (other civs) and Im instantly on the back foot has anyone got any suggestions for this mission or any strategies I could pursue .. Thanx in advance ...
