Weird Things about Influence Starbases

It seems odd that influence starbases produce influence where there are no people, such when their influence radius includes only empty space or uninhabitable planets. Sure, we are producing lots of music, propaganda, and neat clothes -- but there is simply no one there to consume it. Either influence starbases act globally (and hence there is no reason for them having an 8-hex radius) or they are really odd.

(In addition to being way too powerful -- defend your starbases well and a cultural victory is simply way too easy on any setting compared to any other type of victory.)

Well this is sort of like a monolog, but perhaps one can calculate influence based on population affected instead of raw abstract numbers?

I've often wondered about this, if I am mining an influence resource on one side of the galaxy, is it raising my influence on the other side?

Because you have a presence there. There are people working in the mining/starbases, and other alien culture can be 'influence' by your culture just by being there.

No, I think that is incorrect. As I stated in my original post: EITHER influence starbases have a range of effect (8 squares, currently), OR they do not and hence act globally. Only under the last condition could what you mean, Chorminium, make sense, but that is currently not how these starbases work.

an influence starbase (not a starbase mining an influence resourse) creats its own small bubble of influence which it can enhance with its moduales. Actually all starbasses produce this but only an influence base can enhance it. I don't know why youd bother because a influence base near your planets or enemy would be more helpful for cultural domination.

I guess itd easily make your borders bigger which would increase your tourism revenue... In which case you can think of your starbase in the middle of nowhere as an interesting vacation resort. a romantic get-away in the middle of empty space.

Influence starbases in empty space are useful in getting influence victories when you need to get 75% of the map on large er maps sizes where ther is a lot of empty space. They do only mostly affect the are of their radius. There may be some small global affect though.
