Ship2Ship AI

If I put a ship on a starbase and issue guard command.. I have to keep doing this each turn. Not only that, when the AI attacks the starbase it goes right past the ships parked on that space and damages the starbase FIRST! Isn't that a little advantage, over the HUMAN player who must clear out ships parked at a starbase before destroying a starbase. It just seems like an unfair advantage that the AI has.

Also, can you please elaborate on initiative? How do you determine which ship shoots first or is everything just simultaneous?

Attacker always shoots first. And I wouldn't vote for anything that makes the AI any easier to beat...

Thanks for clearing up the initiative info. Some space sims, give the faster ship/fleet, initiative. Good info.

I'm not voting for AI improvements. I just think its a little odd, my ship/fleet set to guard, ontop of a space station, I own, doesn't guard anything. The enemy AI actually just goes right for the space station, right thru my ships/fleet set to guard... So isn't the 'guard' feature sorta borked.

I know 'autoattack' is borked. I'm trying to figure out the difference between guard and sentry. Also, I'd like to know how to set my ship to ONLY engage in tradeline raiding. It seems if I park the ship/fleet on a tradeline, set it to sentry or guard, it doesn't do anything when an 'at war' enemy tradeship flies by.

To me that's confusing. Thanks.

A couple of good points by ringa ....

To defend a Starbase - I have a Fleet and a single "scout-type" ship close to the base.
As enemy fleet moves in to attack, I use my Fast-Scout to plot their course .....
That is, I check the enemy fleets speed and "moves left" ....
I then postion my battle fleet to intercept the enemy BEFORE it reaches the Starbase.
If I have built my ships to counter the AI techs, I will usually devastate if not destroy the
attacking fleet. For important starbases I may even have two defense fleets .... and hit the
invaders with both on the same turn ...

And for raiding enemy shipping ... Well, I find that to be so much fun, I would never let the
computer handle that !!!!
