How to enable cheats
The information is confusing about cheats. Please help.
from
GalCiv2 Forums
Do you have the latest version of the game, downloaded from stardock (no CD yet) and have enabled cheats? If so, please inform me how to enable them. On this forum I have encountered the following contradictory statements:
1) you need to make a copy of your .exe file (this is the file in your main directory that opens the game up for you. NOT the file that opens up the little "autoexecute" window that allows you to launch the game or update it and such)
So..you make a copy of that file.. then go into its properties and it will say something like
"E:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2\GalCiv2.exe"
What you want to do is put "cheat" at the end of that. it should end up looking like this
"E:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2\GalCiv2.exe" cheat

2) My shortcut target line just says this:
L:\Stardock\GalCiv2\GalCiv2.exe w cheat nointro
with no double quotes around the exe

3) for the Money cheat to work, don't you need to complete/buy your 1st Colony ship? Least thats the way it works for me....

4) "C:\Program Files\Games\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2\GalCiv2.exe cheat"

5) "C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2\GC2Launch.exe" cheat

6) If you want to enable cheats, you have to add the "cheat" command line parameter (note: that's 'cheat' [singular], not 'cheats' [plural]) to a shortcut to the application and you need to add it *outside* the quotes that enclose the application path in the shortcut.
For example: "C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2\galciv2.exe" cheat

7) And no quatation marks between the GalCiv2.exe and cheat.. it should be
GalCiv2.exe cheat
that is. just a space between the .exe and cheat

8) "C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2\GalCiv2.exe" cheat

What is the correct way, many of these I have tried with no luck. And I have to admit a strong sense of anger towards you people who start a thread asking how to enable the cheats and then get a few different answers and you conclude with "thanks, it works now"?!?!?! Why not inform us how you made it work?
