Auto Launch

HI all. I was wondering how auto launch works with colony ships? In Galciv 1, if you didn't use it, you could forget about your colony ships; if you did use it, it wouldn't allow you to specify the population to put on it. How does auto launch work in Galciv 2??

Thanks

I don't think GalCivII has an auto-launch. I get around this by making a rally point in each system.

you can also right click on the icons on the right side of the screen.

Hmm. That might be more convienient than making the rally points just to launch. Maybe you're supposed to use the rally points for long-distance "rallying" and the right-click to autolaunch.

Rally points are more convoluted in this game than they are in, oh, say, Warcraft III. I can tell you're about to type up a monster flame about RTS kiddies, but just listen for a sec. It's easy to select 3-4 "unit factories" and right click where new units should go. Takes two clicks and there's no "untidiness".

Untidiness is really the main barrier that makes you think "do I really want to set another rally point? Really? Is it worth the headache?" Untidiness consists of the little nagging things like mis-named points, obsolete points that you forgot to delete, a window interface that's only 6 rows deep even though you have 18 constructor depots, or the Planet Qualar II which you forgot to set until its starport filled up. Stuff that would be easily "worry free" if you could control-group your planets and right-click in space.

That's just my two cents, feel free to flame Remember, just because standard interfaces may come from a "B-net kiddie" game there's no reason they can't be used to make other games more intuitive.
