Shields Technology?

I just played a couple games, and I see Shields mentioned as a technology required for a few ship designs. I can't find Shields anywhere in the tech tree though! (And, I spent a LOT of time looking!) What's going on here?

Are you playing the campaign or the main game? The campaign limits portions of the tech tree.

Shields are at the Deflector/Barriers/Force Fields branch.

Yeah, I was playing in the Campaign. Huh, if I take creative, can I get campaign limited technologies?

Pre-Fab ships in this game aren't worth worrying about inho....Just make your own...they tend to be better anyway...
