Old Tech

Hi Everyone,
Is it possible to use 'old tech'? For example, I can research up the production tree and have manufacturing centers, but they are cost prohibitive on a virgin planet I just want to get up and running. Can you go backward in the tech tree for social improvements?
Also, xan anyone point me to the newbie guide? I keep seeing this mentioned but have been unable to find a link or search on it.

No, that's one of the downsides with the game : hard to develop late planets.

It's also the weakness of the dread lords. *too* high tech.

That's what rush building is for...

Rush build a factory, and the rest will come in more reasonable time...

assuming you are late in game, it should be easy to conjure up the resource to purchase a factory.

I would rather just put down basic whatever and let the governor upgrade them slowly though.. meh.

don't research certaint planetary techs until they are needed.

Work on getting a good economy going that will rake in the cash.

With that cash purchase the improvements you need on late game underdeveloped planets.
