Select ship from ship list

OK, apologies if this has been addressed, but I couldn't find a previous post.
When I open the main planet/ship list and switch to a list of ships, I can't select and focus on a ship by clicking on a ship's entry in the list. What am I doing wrong? I've tried single clicking an entry, double clicking, clicking the little x in the top right corner of the ship's entry in the list. All I want to do is select the ship and focus the view on it, like you can do from the planets part of the master list. Thanks!
