Badly need help to fix problem

I posted this yesterday as my problem.

I'm not sure if this is a bug or what, but I went into my game and all the sudden, my ships only show as green icons, the planets dont show at all for ones I own and others are just white rings on the map. Other then that everything looks pretty normal. It doesn't look like a bug though, just some.. lower graphic option maybe? Also it shows trade routes I think on the map. I have gone through all my options and got frusrated hitting every key on my keyboard to see if somehow that changed it.

Wasn't able to get any help on it. I have since reinstalled the game and the problem is still there.

No it's not the zoom, it's the same at any level. No it's not my screen. No it's not my video card, I have checked it and it's fine.

Just to clear those up first. Anyways though if anyone understands this problem I could greatly use the help, I uninstalled but many things were still there on going back in, like option setting and my custom race. So it's possible this Option is still turned on.

When I uninstalled I did delete the folder completely after that. Guess it wasn't enough.

I had the same issue crop up after a CTD. Try this:

"* Save games and preferences are stored under
Documents and Settings\%username\My Documents\GalCiv2. You can edit
the prefs.ini file in that directory to adjust the game resolution
to custom values if the in-game detection doesn't pickup special modes
that are supported. Prefs.ini will be regenerated the next time the
game runs if you remove it."

I still haven't gotten back to seeing 3d models for ships or planets yet either. Reinstalling now....

No problem. Lemme know if that resolves it.

I'm sure if it's happened to us there are more people seeing this as well.

Well... the prefs.ini file wasn't in "Documents and Settings\%username\My Documents\GalCiv2" for me for some reason. I searched for it and found it in "Documents and Settings\%username\My Documents\My Games\GalCiv2".

Deleting that prefs.ini file and starting the game resolved the issue for me though.

Good Luck.

Awesome man, thank you, worked for me also.

It sounds like your "Tactical Map Zoom Level" option was turned all the way down. This option allows you to choose how far out you want to zoom before the map changes to tactical / icon mode. Deleting your prefs.ini resets this option to its default value.
