What a weekend.

What a weekend.

The week before last I had a tonsillectomy and a UPPP done.  I have been resting for the past week and starting to feel better.  I had just started to eat more "normal" food.

Then Saturday night I was laying in bed and tasted something in my mouth.  I spit and it was bright red blood.  I went to the sink and a great amount of blood was coming out of my mouth.  Obviously one of my incisions have come open.  So about midnight my wife is rushing me to the hospital and calling my doctor.

Of course when we get to the ER my wife has to fill out the paperwork.  Meanwhile, I am now at the point of panic because blood is coming out my mouth and nose, and it's starting to choke me.  After about 10 minutes I am called back and put into a room.  Now here comes everyone to take blood, blood pressure, etc.  Another 10 minutes later and my doctor arrives.  At this point I'm having trouble breathing and start to have a panic attack.  He tries to stop the bleeding in the ER room, but I have a terrible gag reflex and he just couldn't get far enough back.

So he says he has to knock me out and take care of it.  So within a few minutes the surgical team is down getting me from the ER.  I have to say the surgical team at about 1 a.m. is pretty hillarious, and a bunch of nice people.  So in the pre-op room the nurse starts hooking me up to things, and the anesthesiologist tells her not to and just take me to the operating room because it's 1:30 a.m. and nobody is waiting.  While I'm on the table I get to hear the interesting and once again hillarious people talk before I'm put out.  He puts an oxygen mask on me and is talking to me.  He says he's ready and I feel a terrible burning sensation all throughout my body.

The next thing I know I'm waking up in recovery with my wife, doctor, and nurses all looking at me.  They all smile and I fall back asleep.  Then I wake up again and the doctor says he had problems with my blood pressure, but everything went ok.  I'm taken to a room at about 4 a.m., and try to rest.  I spent the rest of the weekend in the hospital under observation until today.  So now I have another week off work, and another week of laying around and drinking liquids.

I hope I didn't bore anyone, but I needed to share my experience.

*shivers* I am so glad i haven't undergone tonsilectomy when i was a kid. Your experience is sending shivers down my spine. God knows back then how scared i felt when my pediatrcian told my mom that in about a month, they would remove my tonsils. But then, with the great grace of God, they did not push it through. Coming across this thread just reminds me of the fear. And now that you had such a very nasty experience, well, I thought surgery is a no no for me, well at least now that i am healthy

Sorry to hear, mate. It's certainly frustrating and frightening as panic rises and altho you can see people making an effort, it doesn't always 'help' when you're on the verge of a total break-down. I, too, am in and out of the ER for a major jaw infection, brought on by an absessed tooth. Although I tend to make things worse suffering from chronic panic attacks/anxiety episodes. Currently I still can't open my jaw more than enough to say fit even one finger in. hehe.. Currently on sedatives to alleviate some of the extra duress I put myself thru in times like these. Being alone rocks. [Not]. Hope you recover soon, mate. Really soon.
