Tech trading question (bug?)

In a recent game where I was ahead in diplomacy I had other civs requesting a certain tech trade. I usually decline since I want to see what they have and if I can make a better deal.

When the other techs become visible I will make an offer that is better for me. In this game they would refuse the trade and if I then offer them what they asked for in the first place they refuse. I can keep playing around with it and can usually wind up with a pretty good trade but this seems like a bug based on my previous experience that you can always come back to what they asked for to start with.

I also check the relations screen and there has been no reduction in relationship. There has never been an irritation factor with haggling so I'm not understanding the refusal of original terms

Not really the AI may reconsider their offer, if you reject their offers they can change their opinion about you, going from friednly to neutral, etc. So sometimes is better to accept and then nail them later on.

That's the raeson I checked the relations screen before and after there was no change. Friendly before, friendly after.

If it was something that I really needed I would jump on it but they usually want something I would rather not give them on an even trade.

However, the relationship DOES change when you refuse a deal, or ask for something that the AI thinks is a bad deal. It may not change enough to move from friendly to warm, but based on everything I've read in the manual on here, it DOES change.

Interesting, I will keep that in mind.

When I initiate the trading, I have been indiscriminately making incremental offers to find the best deal and it never seems to prevent me from making the deal. For instance, if I am selling a tech I might ask for 1000 (based on what they have) if the refuse I will go down in 100 increments until I find the right number.

I'd love to see some sort of "What can we do to make this work?" option, that while perhaps does not produce the optimal deal, gets you somewhere near the ballpack. Or perhaps a method of letting you view the relative worth of your technologies in relation to the opponent, similar to the beakers in Civ4.

This is not a bug per se, but it's the cause for the tech trading desing flaw: Sometimes you randomly get very good trade deals which are way better than what you would get if you initiated the deal. Don't know why, probably supposed to be some simulation of goodwill. The problem is that the AIs do this to each other all the time as well and are thereby spreading there techs amongst each other, leading to every AI having the same techs.... look around for several upset threads about it.

Franco: The text will turn green when you put something in there that they'll accept... no need to experiment.
