This is what is slowing me down

I cant figure out how to make troop transports effectively.

1. If I make them too large (1500), they take a long time to build.

2. If I make them too small (500), I end up short handed when it comes time to take over a planet.

3. No matter which avenue I go with, I never have enough. When I go on the offensive, I end up waiting and waiting and waiting to get a troop transport to a base that I already have locked down and ready for invasion.

4. Right now in the game im playing, I have about 6 planets that im ready to invade, and I have NO troop transports.

So here is the issue. On planets that I have enough manufacturning to spit out transports at a servicable speed, I cant afford to take THAT many people from. If I get a planet over 21billion or so.. it gets really hard to keep them happy, Those planets that DO have enough people on them, usually dont have the manufacturing to spit out the transports in a reasonable time (cause too many tiles are taken up with farms and media centers to have an impressive manufacturing score)

It seems like my BEST bet for pumping out enough troop transports to be aggressive, is to pick too planets with good ratings right next to each other, and make one a population/pleasure planet..and the other a manufacturing planet. Then send my troop transports from the manufacturing planet to my pleasure planet to stock up on bodies. Still..that is alot of work and not always possible.

How do you manage this? what am I missing? am I not SUPPOSED to be able to take over more than a few planets per year? if so...this game is gonna take me DAYS to finish. Not necessarily a bad thing, but I find myself wanting to move on to try other races and see what other random things will happen in a new game

In my first game I just build 'em small (500) and planed my invasion thoroughly a long time ahead. If I didn't have that time, I just buy 'em from Terran Manufacturing.

Pretty much the same. Concentrate on brining in the cash and then have a big/happy population center where I just buy big transports from when Im ready. And have a small troop ship design also and have a few of those pre-made sitting in orbit of lesser planets ready for when needed.

There just something wickedly satisfying about selling all your tech to a minor race and using the money to buy troop transports to invade them with

Id REALLY like it if the troop transport wouldnt disappear after using it .. if I could take it back to a planet and refill it, that would be sooooooooo much nicer.

Build up several transports before taking them over. That way, the first few can use Core Detination (or something that will boost your advantage factor), then with the last one use Traditional Warfare, so you don't get hit with the penalties of using a lethal Invasion Tactic.

Paticence is the key to successful invasions.

I can't stand using the standard transports to invade unless its my only option. Make nice with your neighbors until you have advanced troop mods, then smash them with 10000+ troop invasions!
