Help please with screen resolution

Bought the game through Stardock Central, download went fine, installed game, game started up. Main menu came up and I (like an idiot) went to the Options menu and changed the screen resoution. When I applied this I had a black screen saying "Input not Supported". Now whenever I load game and push the play button it goes black and says "input not supported". I went to the control panel and changed the screen resolution to several different options. This will change my desktop, but the game still seems to try to load up in the screen resolution that I changed it to before (black screen again). How do I accees the settings without being able to see the game when it loads up.

My specs P4 2.0 GZ, 512 RAM, NVIDIA GEFORCE MX 4000 128MB APG card. Native screen resolution for my monitor is 1290X1024. Game was obviously working by I decided to get cute and changes things!

You can manually change the display settings by editing the prefs.ini file

this file is usually stored in "my documents\my games\galciv2" or my documents\galciv2"

than open the file with notepad and under video:

[Video]
DisplayWidth=1600
DisplayHeight=1200

change the width and height that your video card supports

Thank you very much ShenLeung, after making the same mistake of changing the resolution, the game failed to load. After editing the file you denoted in your post to match my windows settings, not only does the game play again, but even the videos play all the way through now instead of crashing part way in! Hoorah!

The only distressing thing is that I have a very high end computer and video card (3 GHz Pentium-D, 2GB RAM; GeForce 6800 w/ 512 RAM) and yet the DX invocation is so primitive as to hang instead changing the video resolution properly (which is built in to Direct X, it just has to be called properly)

Is 1280x1024 also supported? I tried setting this up but couldn't really tell if it worked or not. I was running in 1024x768 before and it looks about the same to me...
