EBGames called - my *vanilla* copy of GC2 is in (dammit)

My local EB Games called, said my pre-ordered GC2 is in. It is NOT the Collectors Edition, the clerk (who I know) is very certain about this. It's just the plain box just like their web page shows. So much for saying how all pre-orders would be Collectors Editions. I can't blame them, their page specifically shows the plain box. Oh, and no bonus "printed tech tree" either, he says they didn't get any customer bonuses for GC2 .

Weak. I preordered with ebgames.com precisely because I thought they'd have the customer bonuses/ Collector's Edition.

Granted, we still should get the "bonus digital content", but I was after the printed tech tree.

Frankly it may seem a little petty compared to the problems some people have had, but I really wanted that damn silver box! I collect Collector Editions of my favorite games. Not a happy camper I am.

We're trying to figure out what happened and come up with the proper way to deal with the problem. Sorry for all the hassles

All the "goodies" were to be shipped in the box...IIRC

Brad has already stated that you get thew digital content with the first distribution run, so don't worry, you'll get the extras. As far as the printed tech tree, there are already 2 jpg's on the forum that the dev's have uploaded (can't remember where) and they are working on PDF versions as well to add to the DL section. And without absolute promises, Brad stated in another thread the POSSIBILITY of getting more tech trees made up to mail to people who "REALLY" want them....PDF works fine for me...

As far as the silver box goes, there's always spray paint....

I already printed out the manual and the tech trees (I have a large format color printer ) so that's not a problem.

I recognize that it's just a game and not Real Life worries. I've got all the digital content (I got the DL version earlier this week and upgraded to CE electronically). Since I can print my own manual and tech tree I've got all I need. It's just the principle of the thing. I have access to printers and can afford to buy the game in two versions, but that's not true for many people and they should be able to purchase from Stardock confident that what they are expecting is what they are going to get.

Personally I like the look of the red box better, but maybe that's just me.

Bottomline is glad to hear Stardock is working to make all clients happy. This is the type of company that cares about the purchaser.

How exactly are they making people happy? Just by saying "Gee, we don't know what happened?"

Does this mean that Gamestop is getting the plain box as well? I preordered my copy there earlier this month thinking I would get the CE box like many other people.

That, and by sending out the tech tree / giving the downloadable goodies out for free. Still bites though :/

Do you have any chance of getting a refund and checking Walmart? They're said to have only ordered CEs, pre-order or not. Last I checked EB had a good refund policy, but that wasn't too recently.

Gamestop's website mentions the special box and foldout tech tree, so I'm assuming that they will be selling the CE version. I'll gripe at them if they don't.
