I quote from the readme.txt "Set the skin to Windows Classic to not use a WB skin on startup (or use the options on the Skins tab or in the Advanced Config window). None of these work, either.

I have gone through 3-4 weeks of silliness with this update. Including the endless error message loop:
This Machine MUST be rebooted after installing this version of WB5.
Please select one of the buttons below

I believe Stardock (or whoever)released this update too soon. I have seen many postings on these 2 basic "bugs". I solved the endless loop with a complete uninstall / re-install. I have NOT seen any resolutions offered - Stardock must know about this, their support was much better for the earlier versions. I put in 2 different tickets and got a haphazard, disinterested reply to one of them - about a week later. I'm still waiting for the reply, 4 days later. I BOUGHT THIS THING, it's not hacked or cracked PLUS I paid for the upgrade that toasted the whole thing.

After the reload it appears to be functioning But I still can't get it to stop loading on startup. Resolution: Uninstall and don't re-install it.
I must say I'm very disappointed in the lack of response

My advice:
It's a toy
If you didn't buy it don't.
If you did buy it uninstall it and ask for your money back.

Each and everytime, since mid 2003, when i open WB configure and set it to the default windows skins..WB unloads and does not load on startup.

WB loading at startup is normal (and has been since WB3).

To stop it you just set the skin in wbconfig to Windows Classic or Windows XP Style.  This is not a bug.

Thank YOU (all)! I tried that and it didn't work (which is what I meant by bug)I finally got it to work by using the unload window blinds after setting the deafault skin etc. It seems to be working OK again.

Thank You for all your help!!

alright so windowblinds is the better program.

I'm not saying the comments here are wrong, but keep in mind that you're at a Stardock site now. You might get different answers if you were to ask at a more StyleXP friendly site.

I'm just sayin'.

Edit:  Wow, how did my reply end up here?

Search for autoruns by Systernals. It's a free utility that lets you control what gets loaded all the way down to drivers. I'm sure you can prevent all WB DLLs from loading.

Be careful, it gives you a lot of power so you better know what you're doing. My system couldn't be any more stable. I upgrade my hardware frequently. I was surprised how many drivers Windows XP continues to load after changing hardware.

Please be aware that if you do use a tool like Autoruns to stop WB from loading, WB will stop working on your PC until you use Autoruns to turn WB back on & reboot.

If you do not want WB to start, apply the classic skin or Windows XP Style.
