Why my "teammates" try to conquer me ?

I am talking about compain scenario mission 1.

While the mission itself is quet easy , I still fail to understend why my "teammates" Altarians building influence starbases all over around me ?
I experimented a bit and noticed that if I let them "do it their way" they fill my entire space with thair influence starbases , taking each of my planets in "starbase triangle" first and filling the rest later.

While it's a valid strategy for normal development I am surprised to see such strategy from "teammates"

They're probably worried that your influence will overwhelm them and are doing it as a survival tactic.  They don't do it as much if you don't take all the planets around them.  I usually deliberately leave planets for my AI allies so that I don't cripple them.

Unfortunatly it's not like this in mission 1.
I deliberetly did nothing , sitting on 2 planets in solar system I started, after some time entire galaxy around me started to look like mine field from Altarian influence bases.

"Beginner"

I got a little annoyed at them doing this in the campaign too. I asked Brad about it and he was concerned too - that they weren't building the starbases close enough.

It happens on both Beginner and Normal difficulties.

They did the same to me. I just figured they wanted to spread their enlightenment to my colonists. I was too busy spanking the Drengin to worry about them.

yea, they better change that in a patch, otherwise i'm gonna have to spank the altarians as well.

Dont worry, Even if they take your planets they will still work towards a greater good.

Namely: Your greater good, They will try every now and then to either help you or take that planet owned by the Drengin

Many games my allies, but mostly the neutral folk, build influence starbases trying to flip my planets. It gets very aggravating when my influence is hardly that impressive in the first place, far too low to attract that sort of attention. From simple to beginner I've noticed it on.

Same thing happened to me. I just finished the first mission on Normal. I took one of the central planets (the better one), and the Altarians took the other. From then on, aside from one oddly placed military starbase, the Altarians completely ignored the Drengin and just built influence starbases around my home planet. It didn't seem to make a lot of difference, though, so I didn't worry about it. Looked a bit odd, though.
