Mission 2 in Campaign

Project building only on one planet?

Only one of the four planets I have will allow me to build projects on the planet surface, is that correct?
On the other planets it shows me a time to complete as follows: "Build Farm \ Time to complete= Never"

Never played this type of game before! So far: two four hour evenings into it, I'm addicted
Even though half the time I forget my Objective/Quest, just playing the campaign so I can learn all this stuff.

Thanks in advance

BTW, Great Job Stardock! Thanks for the Game, kinda reminds me of the ol, "Star Control" days in the late 80 to early 90's

Note: I chose this game over and above "Empire at War" (nice graphics, but AI review was bad, limited and over used predictable Star Wars toy/models etc.. )

Because of Gal Civ2's: AI programming, Great Reviews!, replay value, and too much more to list, I picked GalCiv2.
I'm Glad I did!

I have both. GalCiv II is really a different Genre then SW:EAW.

What's the population on that planet? Usually it's a good practice to build factories first to speed the build time of your other improvements.

Yes you would need some factories. Also make sure you are funding social projects. Low to No funding equals no building. If you are in debt more than 500bc then funding will drop drastically until you save enough to get above the magic -500bc mark.

Good to see an other old Start Control fan. . . I LOVE that whole series!

@ Corban: Population was fine already had factories and more on the one planet, No Problem
@ brigiton: I had plenty of money and factories, research, and farms already built on the original planet.

It's the newly aquired planets I got with my colony ships, They would not allow building at all, this is Mission 2 from the Campaign portion of the game not an instant skirmish, Just was curious if anyone else playing the "Campaign" noticed this as well?

I have already taken the Drenge planet and moved on to Mission 3

@ Armando Penblade : Wow I only played the 1st one, "Star Control" never new they had a few more after that. I dont think you can buy the game anymore though, it came on 4 floppy disks back in the day! (if I'm not mistaken)
not to mention it probably would'nt work on new systems now anyway

I haven't played mission two yet (haven't had time....). So I don't know if there's some sort of limit to what you can produce however, having played GalCiv before I think this might be what caused your lack of production. Brighiton alluded to it actually.

If you only have a little bit of money going into social (or military by the way) projects then some planets will produce projects while others won't.

If there are a lot of people and factories on a planet then it can produce projects, although slowly, with little funding. However, planets with only a few billion people will not be able to produce anything.

Otherwise, it could very possibly be a bug.

Also, I got Empire at War. It's fun, but it could have been a lot better.... The AI is real dumb.

Thanks for the reply everyone, however I wish we had or will get eventually a:

Revised Manual:
(more in depth, not just features) missing very much detail, it just tells what things are, not how to operate the many different facets of the game.
(it's as if they want you to figure out the details on your own by trial and error, which is what I'm doing now)

Many companies and publishers release revised digital manuals already, after patches and upgrades to the game...

this would help out Noobs like me (new to this Genre)
and I'm sure also greatly appreciated by several others as well, as I see many like me on these boards wanting clarification on game directions.

who knows maybe after the games out a bit they may post a detailed, standard in-game example in the "Journal" area just like the "AI" testing examples already there.

PS. finished mission 3, now onto "Mission 4 - Siege"

damn this is a Killer game!

@Reckert:
Star Control 2 is regarded by most as the best game in the series, and better yet, it's being remade, open-source and such, by a fan project. You can find more information here: Link

Alternately, just search for "The Urquan Masters"

Game 3 is my favorite one of all, as it's got awesome graphics, a hilarious plot, and much easier planetary building stuff. You can download it here. http://www.the-underdogs.org/game.php?gameid=1041
