No 'stock' ships?

Is there any way to gain access to some of the 'stock' ship designs that the computer players seem to use? I've got a fair amount of tech, but I don't see anything other than:

Scount
Constructor
Colony
Freighter
Defender
Stinger(?)

Should the 'Fighter' and 'Heavy Fighter' ships appear? There's a whole boatload of ship designs in the 'data' folder. I know I can design new ones, but I was hoping to avoid fussing with the designer the first time through the game.

I've only been playing my game for about 9 hours but I already have access to more "stock" ships than the ones on your list. None are very good. I've got a stock "starfighter' and "troop transport" but I haven't used them.

In short, as you progress along the tech tree you do gain access to more "stock designs" but so far the ones I've gotten don't compare to the custom ships I've created.

It's always going to be more effecient for you to design your own ships. Just think about all the variables that would go into making a stock version of 1 ship, if the SD crew made super versions? You have to take into account miniaturization...
