Racial abilities & Techs

Help needed!

Q1. I chose a race [not custom] and removed all the default abilities choices, so now I have 10 picks. This leaves me with the only special abilitiy being "Logistics". However, even when I start a new game, the default racial abilties (+20 population, etc) don't come back! Have I lost those default choices forever?

Q2. Why do the different races start with different techs? Isn't it unfair?

1) If you go to My Documents\My Games\GalCiv2 and delete the .raceconfig files you can restore the default settings.

2) No.  Different races start with different advantages. Otherwise there would be no point to being able to play multiple races.  Each AI player plays a bit differently, so they have techs suited to their style.

The default races need to reset to their default stats upon every new game. I'm currently playing through the campaign with a warmonger style Human race, and I don't even remember the original stats.

Related but not, I've had an issue with a custom race, where it would not let me select any racial abilities when starting. Whether I hit reset to set everything to zero, or manually removed the pre-selected ones, it would just flash the x for a moment if I tried to make another choice, then go back to blank.

Under the default options, each race has afew ability points left over. Are we supposed to pick more abilities until all picks are used, or have the leftover picks been balanced against say, free techs given to the race?

I hauve noticed that if you spend the excess ability points for a standard race you lose some of the default abilities--they can't be generated by the custom race points system. It is unintuitive that your modified standard races becme the new default and frustrating that you can't revert them from within the game. It's livable for me now-I'm going to use the custom option from now on if I don't want a default.

Yes, I think the abiltiies selection is buggy.

For instance, I selected the default Thalan race. I clicked OK until the "select number of opponents" screen. then I went back one screen to the "customise default race" screen. suddenly, all my Thalan abilities were DOUBLED-- +40 pop growth, +40 soc/mil production etc.

And then, when I went back a further screen -- to the "select your race screen"-- the Thalan's abilities had entirely disppeared to only leave "logistics +6" and a couple of other abilities.

This had become the "new default" and I had to delete the raceconfig files to get back the original.

frustrating!
