Patch?

So..... when is the first patch coming? I think you can all understand why i'm asking this so early. There are things that need to be fixed .... lots of them. Sure they are minor bugs but they can get pretty annoying. Fortunately i can still enjoy the game while waiting for them to be fixed.

Based on GalCiv1 expirience StarDoc is very fast and frequent with patches, my bet would be another week or two max.

I've yet to see any serious bugs reported. I see a lot of "BIG BUG IN HERE!!!11" posts and then when I go in there I see it as "I get an error message when I exit the game if I've previously hit alt-tab"

or

"If I mash down all the keys at once when I go into such and such screen the game will crash" which is reported as "ATT RELEASE BUG!!!!"

or

"I didn't read the readme, and I didn't read the stickies, and I ignored the dialog when I loaded the game that told me that my video drivers are 2 years old and the game is crashing at random intervals!" Of course reported as "HUGE MEGA CRASH ALL THE TIME!!11" posts.

We've been monitoring what people have been reporting, making a note, and prioritizing.  We've already addressed a bunch of it internally and once things calm down we'll have an update.  I'll even gather a list later today and post it.

The biggest issue I've personally seen is that there is a limitation on how many extras you can add to a ship.  That's a pretty big bug.  But not one most people will run into (no one in the beta, gamma, or us personally ran into it but now with serious ship designers playing we need to address that right away).  We've already fixed that internally.

Hello Frogboy

I've had that bug (exactly that bug) with the beta5. I've sent a crash repoort and smarexception to stardock (as stated in 2 others threads about this) but I hadn't realised you were already in the gamma phase (it was late january). I've even had a reply telling me it had probably been fixed since, which seemed right since my version of the game was outdated.

EDIT: the game is great

And it seem s I'm not able to edit my post. I mean I get the edit page, click submit but cannot see the changes. If I click edit again, I see them in the edit page, but not in the thread . Strange

Sounding kind of frustrated or annoyed there! Personally, I can only say thank you. So far this has been a good experience for me. I was downloading all 4 sections and after the third, the fourth disappeared. Then later I switched servers and got the fourth and the new update. It was weird and frustrating a bit, but ended up working well.

Great game, pat yourselves on the back {or scales as the case may be}.

No bugs for me. Stardock, you are standing strong as model game developers (indeed software in general). A highly stable experience.

I've had the following issues so far:

1. Could not download Stardock Central (it was coming in corrupted). In the end I had to have someone else download the installer and direct connect it to me (that worked). Please note that I do NOT have download issues with anything else (I had a similar problem with all downloads over a few megabytes previously, due to nvidia firewall, but I disabled all software firewalls long ago and let my router do the work).

2. Frequent crash bugs in game. A few might be replicatable, I have no idea how to replicate others. It has been bad enough that I just broke down and set it to autosave every turn.
The two that might be replicatable are:
a. When I accessed the Shipyard through a planet and deleted a design, the Confirmation dialogue popped up behind the Shipyard unbeknownst to me. Thinking it just didn't work, I clicked the delete button again on the same ship. When I hit accept on the two Confirmation dialogues, bam crash (probably dumb of me to accept a second time but the code should be prepared for that).
b. At the third week of July, 2259, my game crashes. Every time. This one is game breaking and I will probably be shelving the game until it has been patched unless I figure out a work-around.
This is in addition to other miscellaneous crash bugs that just happen at random intervals.

I'm running in SLI mode with two GeForce 6600 GTs, I've got an AMD Athlon64 3300+, 2 gig ram, using a school Tsomething line. I can provide other hardware specs if necessary.

Its a great game, but it's just crashing too much to play right now.

Apologies - the crash is not the third week of July, 2259 - its the last week of August, 2229 (I load up at Aug. 22, end the turn, that works, the next time I end the turn it crashes).

I HAVENT tested if it crashes on a second time through because frankly playing another few hundred turns in order to find out if it goes boom isn't palatable to me, and it's game breaking because playing another few hundred turns only to find out that the game can seemingly at random get itself into a state in which I can't progress any further just isn't worthwhile to me.

Hm... I would call disapearing "Next Turn" button a major bug

But in general it's features tweeking that we need the most.

I played the game all night last night. I can't think of any bugs I ran into. No crashes. No problems. Just one straight 10 hour game.

i would like the explorer/scouting ships to be able to explore the galaxy by them selve....correct me when i am wrong

Just tried it without SLI enabled... still crashing at the same turn (regardless of whether I roll it back to a previous save or use the most recent).

If anyone has any suggestions at all for fixing this, please share, because I'd love to be able to continue to play the game - it's awesome but unplayable atm.

I've only really had problems with the Ship Builder and the Quarterly Reports so far, but those tend to be game crashers.

With the Ship Builder, I've discovered that there is not only a jewel limit, but also a changes limit. Basically if you place and remove enough modules, the ship builder stops working correctly, and typically crashes the game. Also, placing hardpoint pivots seem to cause the Ship Builder to become flaky, and start fluttering on and off. If I don't exit out of it, the game can crash, and the ship builder won't function correctly until I restart the game.

The Quarterly reports sometimes come up with parts of the wrong animated robot and its own window flutter, and the game ussually needs to be restarted after that. I'm not sure what's causing it, but I think it may be related to the shipyard.

Double click the ship and select the autoexplore checkbox. There's a keyboard shortcut for it too but I don't remember what it is (probably 'x'). I usually do some early manual exploring til I've scoped all the nearby stars then set them to autoexplore.

The Dissapearing Turn button is seemingly replicatable. I only get it on turns where research has ended, and it seems related to ship movement or combat. Cycling through all your ships and force moving them seems to fix it, and it pops up the research window and its all fixed.

I too have problems with the ship design - again it crashes whenever I've changed the designs too many times (there may be only 5 objects on the ship, but I'm fussy and may add and remove them a few hundred times before settling on a design). Also it was very annoying that these crashes deleted my games - would have been nice to be able to auto-resume on restart. After I've learned to save the game before doing ship designs, and to cancel the design and start over when I get indecisive, its working great. And its a great game!!

Hotkeys:

A is auto-survey, and only ships with a survey module can do it. It looks for visible anomolies. If there are none visible the ship drops out of this mode.

W is the oddly named sector-sweep. Oddly named because it has nothing to do with sectors, the ship just starts exploring and pushing back the solid grey (unrevealed) part of the map until it can't find any more within its range. Any ship can do it, and I often have colony ships running around the galaxy exploring after all the planets are colonized.
