Ok someone make sense of this. this is an outrage. im in the combat simulator just messig around.
did you know that a attacking ship (6 attack with mass drivers, with 40 shield defense) will LOSE to a
defending ship (8 attack with beam, 8 defense with shield) ..... WTF!!. it seems to me the different type of weapons you choose have NO effect on the outcome of the battle. simply put. ships have basic attack and defense ratings. the type of weapons you use dont mean squat. this is extremely frustrating. i was gonna buy the game tommorrow. but not now. please tell me this isnt true. PLEASE!!!! how can a beam weapon of 8 defeat a shield of 40????? vise versa, how can a mass driver of 6 NOT defeat a ship that has 0 defense for it. try the calculations out yourself. this is ridiculious.

Ok i understand whats going on.... i feel like a total fool. feel free to laugh at me. i see what i was doing wrong in the simulators......... disreguard that post. or erase it to save me the embarassment.

First question, What is this combat simulator of which you speak?
Second question, Where did you get this simulator of which you speak?
Third question, Does your simulator take into account hull strength (hit points)?

I like the HUGE CAPS. Not a single one of "those posts" is really complete without the CAPS LOKI.

There's a giant Norse pun in there somewhere but I'm too tyr to figure it out.

Seems gc2launch.exe is pulling in under 1 kB/s... yay. hahaha.

Makes sense to me. 8 beam vs 6 shield is better than 4 mass driver vs (sqrt 8 = 2) shield. Why? Because a roll of 1-8 vs 1-6 means that the max damage per turn is 7, while 1-4 vs 1-2 means that max damage per turn is 3.

In general the damage system is highly variable, and favors high damage non-optimized weapons over low damage optimized ones. Why there is no guaranteed protection in this game is a mystery to me. Combat seems pretty random, with only hit points determining real staying power. Why can't some guns roll 4-10 instead of 1-8? Why can't some defenses always roll a 5 instead of 1-7? Would have added more depth to comat.

actually im still fidgeting with it. yes it includes hit points. the simulaotor is right here on the site. check it out. its in metaverse. it still doesnt make much sense. ill give a good example with NO ERRORS.

SHIP #1 - Attacking 8 beam- 8 shield.
SHIP #2 - Defending 8 missle - 8 shield

Ship#1 has NO defense for missles
Ship#2 has equivilent shield to deflect beams.
YET THIS BATTLE IS A STALEMATE!?!? someone tell me why
both ships have 25 hit points. bug?

interesting comments amanasleep, it works that way with dice rolls in some of the rpg's i play certainly.

Be aware, you are talking about a web based simulator.  Let's keep bug reports for now on the actual game and not some web combat simulator.

I tried it myself, the battle simulator is buggy IMO. I'll report it to the web team.

But in the GAME, the one called Galactic Civilizations II where this stuff actually matters, ship 2 would win.

I'm going to have them remove that battle simulator until there's time for them to look into the issue.

Wow, that thing was beyond wacky.

Attacking ship
100 attack in beams
50 defense in shields
100 hit points

Defending ship
100 attack in missile
50 defense in shields
100 hit points

It declares stalemate .... don't think so. Kind of glad I didn't know about it till now
