Battle log for ships?

Having not played GalCiv I but looking forward to GalCiv II, I have a few questions about the game.
1. Is there any sort of battle log for the space ships? I'm thinking along the lines of enemy ships it has destroyed/planetary invasions it has participated in. I would imagine that since ships gain exp, some sort of log would help add player immersion and a greater sense of attachment to the players fleets. Perhaps something akin to Hearts of Iron II.
2. Are ships instantly repaired after battle or do they require time to be brought back up to speed?
3. Are there penalties for occupying an enemy planet *I'm thinking Civ IV here*
