Law Enforcement - Fringe Benefits?

In what many law enforcement agencies are calling at best, highly dubious, and at worst unethical and illegal, it seems that one of the Sheriff Departments here in Virginia are going the extra mile in their efforts to arrest prostitutes!  It seems they are not waiting for the women to propostion them, no they are actually getting the real evidence!

It seems deputies in Spottsylvania County (that is right outside Fredericksburg) Va are actually having sex with the prostitutes! (But only the single ones - Married ones are kept off this special detail). Part of the rationale, according to officials, is that some of the prostitutes do not speak english, so getting them or offer soliticitation is kind of hard without doing the deed.

While some of the county Supervisors have questioned the practice, they seem to trust the Sheriff's judgement in this case, even though other localities close by are able to make arrests without going that far.

The article does not say what the conviction rate is, but I would suspect it is near 100% - for the hookers.

It's a dirty job but somebodies got to do it? Sounds more like entrapment to me.

I dont think even the law enforcement officials that are saying it is wrong are saying it is entrapment.  Only that the deputies are themselves breaking the law.  The Sheriff however counters that it is the same as buying drugs - the undercover cop is technically breaking the law when he buys them as well.

Hmmm, so when do they use the same "language barrier" excuse for busting dealers with "only the best" to sell? Or hey, how's cop to know a thief unless they have stolen stuff with them? Oh and if we are going to have capital punishment for rape and murder, how will we know the accused really did it? What better witness than their partner-in-crime, Nice Old Det. Johnson, Staff Specialist?

From reading the headline I was thinking it might be about them getting free food at restaurants, free movie passes, etc.

The cops around here just "think" they have it made. There will soon be a migration of law enforcement to Spottsylvania.
