So many bugs - IE crashes, transparancy problems, display properties crashing, skin anomalies...

Sometimes, when I switch to (or from?) a skin that has taskbar transparancy, I can see the previous skin's taskbar underneath.

Some skin's top border transparancy is unclickable, meaning that when I try to drag a window, the cursor clicks whatever is underneath the border, like a desktop icon or whatever.

Some skins make some program's text unreadable or even invisible and I have to highlight it to read it. When I minimize and maximize or switch back and forth, the highlighted text is invisivle again. This effects the text and sometimes the grid in some download managers, within some program's windows, not the pull-down menus. General programs like IE don't produce this but others do.

Not all skins produce the errors above. I would say on average half do but the other half work fine.

Other problems I'm having:

Sometimes I have to apply skins twice because instead of switching they sort of merge with the previous skin, especially around the edges making the minimize/maximize & close buttons difficult to see or use.

Also when changing skins I can sometimes see pink edges along the top.

With WB loaded, after opening the display properties in control panel to change a setting like the wallpaper the window goes all white and hangs then I get a rundll32.exe error and it won't close.

Changing skins always makes IE crash so I have to make sure I have no websites on my desktop before I change a skin.

Some programs, like emule have an extra button in the top-right corner which become detached when using any type of skin.

And lastly, some skins make my pc reboot.
That's it, I think.

My system info says my pc is capable of per-pixel stuff if that's of any help.

Last post to you from me until you stop stealing the software: https://www.stardock.com/products/windowblinds/benefits/index.html

You get until version 6.

Or get a subscription to ODNT and get updates on a ton of apps until you let it lapse. It's a great deal.

You need support for a program you are using illegally and one of the problems is you can't see text on your bittorrent site?

Unflippinbelievable!

If I were to consider buying WB based on it's performance then I would have to think twice

Most of the trouble you are having is caused by repeatedly installing trial versions on top of each other. The problem is your performance, NOT WB!

Buy WB, but before you install it, back up your skins (the .wba files) somewhere and completely uninstall your old WB. After the uninstall, physically go in and delete the folder it was installed in. Reboot before installing the new version. I can guarantee that you will be amazed...

If you do not know whether you want to use the program after 60 days, it is probably time to move on.

A clean install of the latest trial version after deleting all traces of all previous trial installations cured most of the problems except for the invisible text in some programs (not IE as Night Train implied... I can see "sites" just fine). As for why I use the BT program TorrentStorm.. are you aware that while BT is notorious for sharing things that shouldn't be, there are plenty of legitimate freeware files available to download? For example single rar sets containing 100s or 1000s of user-made levels for games that otherwise would have to be downloaded individually, one at a time. It's a lot easier than jumping through hoops at the fileplanet website.

"I don't use *THIS* app to steal. Wel . . . this porogram can be used for non-stealing applications . .. as well as stealing"

What an ass.

Weird logic.

Does owning a knife make you a murderer? Because a knife can be used to kill as well as not to kill, like cutting food.

By the way, how does installing trial versions count as "stealing"?

Maybe I should just switch to msstyles and avoid the flaming wrath against forum noobs like myself.

acheeem, you mean, maybe you should go steal MSstyles also...

Well...this thread went crap-ways fast...

Asides about an errant 'z' lend nothing to the thread topic, and presumptions that someone is 'stealing' are likely off-base as well.

If someone wants to go through hoops and try multiple installs of a trial to extend its life...more fool them, for the sake of $20 it's simply more a waste of effort than 'theft'.

If only msstyle skin makers were as innovative at design as WB skin makers are.

MSStyles are more limited than Windowblinds' capabilities, hence their generally inferior 'innovation'.  The proggy is the issue, not the skill of the skinner/artist....

I guess you and I define theft differently Jafo.

If I have a book on my desk that I let co-workers use and one person takes it and puts it on thier desk. I call that theft.

Do I think it's a big deal? Not so much. But does it raise my ire to have that person ask me to explain chapter 7 of thier book? You bet.

My mistake? Posting anything past post #26. Apologies to any and all.

I guess you and I define theft differently Jafo.

It's not about 'definition' it's about 'presumption of guilt'.

Much of what transpires on these boards is from/by/about 'noobs'....people who are unaware of the historical intricacies of WB5 warez-user requests for help, etc....and all they are doing is seeking assistance for a legitimate trialware issue, yet frequently they are prejudged and often erroneously.

It's always better to presume 'innocence'.  That way no-one is a target for 'flaming wrath'...

'tis true.

that and sharewares don't specifically mention when the trial runs out you are not allowed to ever reinstall it again.

Maybe I should just switch to msstyles

Jez2k2....same thing applies. To properly use msstyles. you need StyleXp, Starskin some other such program....each gives a trial period, but cease to function once that expires. To reactivate, you must either purchase or do an OS clean install...as your id is tagged/logged by the respective companies.
Oh, and by the way, I know of someone who ran a cracked copy of StyleXP...totally screwed his system......very expensive freebie.

There again, theres always that free uxtheme patch thing....but very restrictive, hardly seems worth the bother when 'even the limited' trial version of WB5 offered so very much more.

Your choice, but you only get what you pay for....with my bone fide 100% paid for version, not only do I get help and support with respect here on the forums, I can also go directly to Stardock and receive assistance from program developers and the like...not so with the repetitive downloading of a 60 day trial.

As I said your choice

Reinstalling the WB trial will not reset the 60 day trial limit.

POST EDITED.  WE TAKE A VERY DIM VIEW OF DISCUSSION ABOUT PIRACY HERE.

Neowin is regarded as piracy?

I've been to the official neowin.net site. There's no option to buy, just an official download link in the forums which is free and not a trial."

If downloading an official file from an official site which is owned by a business is regarded as piracy, then I'm Sorry
Reply #44 Top

It relates to the first part of your post (not the neowin part)

Please do not post about trying to bypass the WB5 trial limits again.

ok sorry, so anyway.. the Neowin patcher allows you to use msstyles instead of having to buy a program like StyleXP. That's what I was referring to when I first brought up msstyles.

These msstyle patchers allow you to apply the mere basic style....minus all the whistles, bells and knobs that StyleXP will apply: ie, the icons, the cursors, the walls; the boot and logon screens.
It still comes down to getting what you pay for. To customise your desktop properly, you need to purchase one of these programs, and ObjectDesktop, which WB5 is a part of, is the best way to do that....completely and economically. Forego a couple of pizzas and a movie or two, and you've got the purchase price, plus full Stardock support should you ever need it.
Again....it's your choice, but if you alternatively want to go with buggy patches, freebies and trying to circumvent trial periods, you're doing neither yourself or your PC any favours.
