The baddest of all 'bad-ass' baby blankets

I'm adding this to my repetoire

I'm done with the 'bad-ass baby blanket' project.  All I have to do now is sew up the booties and wash it all, then I'm delivering it to Reggie at work.

I was going to make a 'bad-ass' blanket for Debbie and Brad's soon-to-be baby, but in my quest for patterns across the internet I found this:

I think it's beautiful.  It's backed with a piece of fabric, much like a quilt, and it's hand embroidered with french knots and running stitches to keep the backing attached to the knitted front.  The backing makes it doubly warm and gives it more structure than just a knitted blanket.

So, I've decided that Debbie and Brad and their new baby will be the recipients of my first 'baddest-ass' baby blanket.  I'm going to try and wait to see if they're having a boy or a girl....and if they don't want to find out or can't tell, then I'm going to knit it in gender non-specific colors.  I'm very excited about starting it, to be honest. Because it's entirely knitted in sticking stitch it's the kind of project that I can do whilst I'm watching TV (yes I can knit without looking at it) and I can also leave it without having to worry about finding my place in the pattern when I come back to it.

I LOVE finding new patterns, especially ones like this - it's truly a unique item.

Sweet! I really like it. My neice is due in a couple of weeks--I might print out the picture to show my mom. Are we going to get to see pictures of the project you just finished?

Hahah....yeah, but you wouldn't get it until I was in my fifties!

It IS cool, isn't it?  I'm really excited about making it.

Cool!  Do you want me to knit a beanie for you to give her?  I can have it out in the mail to you by Saturday, and I have some very nice pink chenille-like yarn that I can make it out of.  If you can wait until Monday for a mailing date, I can make a pair of matching bootees.  It's all no charge, of course....just let me know and I'll get to knitting!

Oh good, I'm glad that you like it.  If you're having a boy, I'm going to try and keep it about the same colors.  If it's a girl, I'm going to use a pink color instead of the blue that's in the one pictured.  If you can't see....well, I don't know what I'll do just yet.  But I'm sure I'll figure something out!

I think it would work just fine either way with the colors shown. Beautiful!

That's what I thought too.  There are a lot of layers to it, from the backing to the embellishments...it has a lot of depth and texture, and I like that.  Plus, the backing makes it warmer and slightly more durable, which I like.  To me, this is almost heirloom quality, and I just LOVE that.

Carefully saying that... you'll have the C.O.L. come in here and talk about taxing it

It is a very neat looking blanket though, would seem to be quite the project.

Actually it's all done in stocking stitch, which is knit one row and purl the next - so it's very simple to knit.  The trick part is putting it together; knitted fabric can be difficult to work with.

I've been digging in my yarn stash to see if I have appropriate colors, and I do!
