I have seen other companies ship a few days early to meet the same date as the instore date. Other companies mail out on the release date.

It'll depend on when we get our copies.  Depending on where you live, it may be that you'll get it by the 24th.

Bummer... I guess I should have just purchased it at my local EB on the 21st....

Hmm, I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that I'll probably not be getting it on the 21st either, considering you'll be shipping it over to the UK.

Ah well, thank goodness for electronic download.

ACtually if you preordered it from stardocks site, you'll get most of it earlier then the stores and on the 21st you'll be able to play. You might get your box a few days later though, but you'll already have the game.

If only because it gets shipped from the factory to Stardock and the retailers at the same time. Stardock then has to ship it on to you.

Keep in mind also if you have broadband and ordered from Stardock you can simply download most of it starting next week or so, then get the final piece you need to play on the 21st.

It doesn't really matter when you get your physical CDs and stuff as long as you can download and play the game on release day? (or DL the final pieces on release day having pre-DLed the bulk of the game before then) And you'd have the PDF version of the manual, which is better than nothing (assuming you haven't already read thru the draft versions several times already)

Unless I'm missing something...

That's pretty much it right there. The boxed copies go from the manufacturer to our distributor and then to us. At the earliest we'd have them just before they're scheduled to ship out to stores (which is on a Friday - right before they hit stores the next Tuesday). So it's possible, but I wouldn't make plans on it.

I'm figuring EBgames.com will get it and ship it out that same day. Usually the announced release date means it takes a day or two to actually get to stores.

My honest hope is that it doesn't arrive at my home until the 23rd (two day air shipping) because the last thing I need is an excuse to skip class.

You still get the ability to start downloading though so you'll still get it on day one in all likelyhood.

Sincerely I don't know how it is possible to have a translated version of GC II available in store the 03.03.2006

When are we looking at being able to get the key files for the game on the 21st? Are we looking at a 12:01 a.m. -5 G.m.t scenario (hope)? Should I plan to stay up late on the 20th, like i did for Hl2?

Make it 12:01 AM +11 GMT

As soon as one part of the world hits the 21st, make it available!

It has been said that those that ordered the CD version will have download access for a short period to allow them to play while they wait for the shipment.

It has also been said that free updates will be available for a year after release, and you will be able to download the game for years after release.

Are there differences between the download access (i.e., how long access will be avaiable and what can be downloaded) between those that purchased the download version vs. CD?

If you ordered GalCiv2, you will be able to download it from StarDock, forever (well, so long as Star Dock is successfully in business). You just need your serial number.

I suspect that if you pre-ordered GC2 from Star Dock, they will email you your serial number. This will allow you do download the game via Star Dock Central. A few days later, the actual game box, CD, manual, etc will show up. IIRC, this is what Star Dock did when GC1 was released.

I don't know about those people that pre-ordered via other sources (ie, EB games and such).

I believe Brad has stated that they will be issuing temporary CD Keys to box preorderers when the preload data is made available. The temporary keys will then expire when it's expected that most or all people have received their boxes with teh actual (permanent) keys.

Feb. 20th is President's Day, a federal holiday. This won't matter to those of us downloading the game, but I hope that it doesn't effect the shipping for those of you who expect the game in stores! Good luck!
