Society, a GC2 expansion, Political Machine 2 and some RTS at some undetermined future have all been mentioned.

Neat!

I've been wondering what MMORPG to play since quitting Starwars Galaxies in utter frustration over Sony's constant brutal overhauls. Society looks very promising!

Society sounds pretty promising, I think I read about this in a gaming magazine a few months ago. Not just an online RTS but one that lets you customize your buildings and units for aesthetic uniqueness and strategic differences. It sounds like they're giving you a =lot= to do that isn't directly related to warfare.

There's actually been a few decent MMORTSes in the last few years, Time of Defiance was pretty decent in a lot of ways, but it basically failed to give you any goals beyond the acquisition of more resources and more ships. You had no reason to interact with other players except as related to warfare or the avoidance of warfare. I don't think there was a reason or benefit to trading really.

I really prefer RTSes where it feels like I'm leading a culture or a nation, Rise of Nations for instance, while every MMORTs I've heard of so far has just tasked you as a military commander. It all seems too sterile for me, and on the macroscale very unrealistic. Military power doesn't exist in a vacuum, a general doesn't control tank factories, I believe it's much more interesting to see a clash of nations than a clash of arms.
