Customizing ship colors, as well as shape and function?

I'm anxiously awaiting the release of the game along with the rest of you. As is the case with many others, I'm highly enamoured of the idea of designing my own ships.

One thing thats not clear though, from the screens or anything that Ive read, is whether or not Ill be able to control the color scheme of my ships, in addition to the physical structure and capabilities. From the screen, it appears as if the the individual races always seem to have the same color scheme. I dont know if this is just coincidence, based on the preferences of the screenshot poster, or a limitation to the the ship design ability. Can I play as humans with red and black ships, or am I stuck with the traditional "good guy" white and blue?

This may seem silly, or inconsequential to a lot of people, but with all the other fantastic notions on customization incorporated into the game, this would seem an odd omission. If this has been stated elsewhere, I apologize...Ive spent the last week or so going through the boards and all the dev journals, but the answer didn't jump out at me anywhere. If it isnt in, I would like to make this my first feature request for future updates

Thanks!

I'm almost certain you choose your color scheme when choosing your civilization.

I agree with Citizen Bingjack... I am wondering how freely the designing is. How to form and bend the ships part to fit your "dream"

Yes you can customize the colors of your ships from the race customization screen. You can select the base ship designs available to you by race, change the color of your ships, engine colors and more.

As to how customizable the parts are; thay are very customizable from positioning them on the base ship to the size of the part added. Basically each component part can be increased or reduced in size.

Buy the game and you will soon find out

BTW i have never enjoyed making ships, however the easy way you can customize a ship in this game has had me hooked on creating/upgrading all the time.

Already preordered! Thanks for the info DG...that was just a lingering worry I had. Believe me, even if this wasnt looking to be a great turn based strategy game (although, of course it IS looking like that), they had me at the "lego ships". Im a sucker for stuff like that.

Hehe okey! so if i want to create a Vertical ship with the engines on the side like this:

| |= <--- Engines
| |=
| |
| | <--- Ship hull/form
| |

i can do it? sort of? U know what i mean

By positioning the parts, does that mean you can rotate them?

I've been assuming the 'bling' is attached to the same pre-designated points on the hull as equipment, or at least there are pre-selected points where you can attach things. Am I wrong, meaning you can connect 'structural' accessories anywhere you want?

There's rotation "bling" too so you can rotate direction of the hardpoints. You can make as crazy of a ship as you'd like.

You know, a demo "movie" of someone going through this process (maybe time lasped) would be worth a thousand words ( and possibly a thousand sales!)

I'm sure they are already doing that, such a unique feature is a selling point that needs to be shown
