WB and CorelDraw conflict?

I read with some alarm that folks were having trouble with CorelDraw after they had installed WB. I have version 9 and I use it almost daily...I depend upon it.

Is this a rare problem, occuring on only some systems, or is it unavoidable as long as a person uses CorelDraw?

I just needed to install my photo printer (to be sure my system was stable) and then I was gonna try WB...now I'm not so sure.

Sure would appreciate some feedback or comments on this issue...

I did a search in the WC forums (no need to make comments how bad the search is) and didn't see any posts with application problems. In fact there were a number of tutorials using CorelDraw.

As with all apps that integrate into your OS, your system may have issues.

I recommend getting the trial . .. seeing what happens and go from there.

You can always exclude a problem app from being skinned too. That way, everyone's a winner.

And now you know, and knowing is half the battle.

The mention of conflicts...by several folks...is in the thread entitled WB and Hardware overlays.

It sure makes me nervous...new system, new (to me) OS and a strong desire not to create hidden or latent conflicts that I'll have trouble resolving later on. I always do a restore point before installing hardware or software (that's the best thing about XP) but I know that doesn't work 100% of the time to rid your system of problems.

I have never seen (or heard) of any problems after excluding an app from being skinned.

For some people WB is an uneccessary extra. For me, it's the third thing I install (first being anti-virus, second being firewall) and I exclude problem apps.

You pays your money . . you takes your chances. I'd take a chance.

I have been using WindowBlinds and Corel Draw 10 for the last year on one system, and now on another new one, and have not had any problems.

The problem is not WB. On some dual core systems with nVidia graphic drivers, Corel locks up. The newest 'Offical' driver (81.98 02/07/06) does not fix the issue. If you're not having problems now, you shouldn't have any after installing WB and there are higher driver versions out that do fix it if you were to have problems.

If the "newest" drivers are 81.98 (which is what I have), how can there be higher driver versions? Are they betas? And do they really fix the problem?

I read the Corel groups religiously and I'm not sure that going from version 9 to 10 or 11 or even CorelDraw 12 would be a step up.

I will probably give WB a trial starting this weekend but it is reassuring to know that the problem lies with videocard drivers and is being addressed.

yrag said that the "official" drivers were still beoken, not the "newest" you quote. There may be beta or un-official versions that are newer. Worth checking out.

83.40 is said to have fixed the Corel issue http://www.tweaksrus.com/index.php?option=com_docman&task=cat_view&gid=135&Itemid=41/ . It has also been reported that 83.40 causes some gaming glitches (if you're not a gamer, then this isn't an problem). If the 81.98's work, then stick with them, if not...give the 83.40's a shot.

My Corel 9 works at home on my desktop but not on my laptop.  Both computers have the exact same software but obviously different hardware and hardware drivers.  However, Powerdvd works on my laptop but not on my desktop.  It appears hardware or hardware drivers are to blame. 


 


Correction:  My desktop has Windows XP Pro SP2 while my laptop had XP Pro SP1.  Therefore I need to update to SP1 on my laptop and see what happens....good or bad.

I am pretty new around here and I appreciate the heads-up. 'Course just about everybody knows more about WindowBlinds and Windows XP than I do. So I appreciate all comments and all the help I can get.
