I've read articles around here about how Islam is this...and Islam is that. :S

People, if this was any other faith, would you honestly think they would act any different? I don’t. They were insulted. And, the idiotic European "press" were willing to stoke the god damn fire and re-print. They claimed that they were 'invoking free press'. It doesn't take an einstein to realize that they'd piss more than a few muslims off. Well you dolts, discretion is the better part of journalism. Did you honestly think that the Muslims, after you knew they didn’t like the comics, that they’d go “Oh well…” Puh-lease…

Now, I’m not saying that lines haven’t been crossed on the Muslims part. They have gone a bit far, destroying things isn’t a good way to respond to something like that. However, I personally, put a larger part of the blame on the stupid press agencies in Europe who continued to print the comic. DUH!

I find it...ironic (right word?) that when other faiths are insulted....people seem to rally behind it. However, when it comes to the recent incident...its.."bad muslims". :S

Also... I've read that people here say "I am backing this because its free speech".

BUT!

With free speech comes the responsibility to practice discretion. We can't go 'willy nilly' with free speech. Sometimes...seriously, sometimes it is best to with hold something...

Sadly, I have yet to read one person say that here on JU....

What said?

It seems that there is a sentiment going around that if muslims arn't going to stop those of their faith from doing what they do, then screw them.... (terrorism,etc...) But, what about OUR problems....we as americans, or christians...or.....who ever...

Perhaps i shouldn't even worry about this... i think there are a few- correction, MORE than a few here....that would feel i shouldn't open my mouth...

True. And those opposing the Nazis knew that they would piss the SA off. Pastor Niemoeller landed in a camp for it. Some people are simply that stupid.

(I heard an Egyptian news paper printed the cartoons in October. Oh, and cartoons showing Muhammed are apparently not new in the Arab world. They print them themselves too.)

Tell you what. Why don't you back up your statements with FACTS or conjecture? Dr. Guy gave you two good examples of where "art" that was MEANT to be directly offensive to Christians (and WAS, mind you) was publicly brought out and DID NOT cause the rioting and burning of buildings that have resulted from the publication of this cartoon?

Here's the kicker, Lucas...you chastise US for not allowing free speech because we condemn these animals for what they are, yet you ignore the very fact that they are actively trying to DESTROY free speech by burning embassies. Ironically enough, all WE have done is spoken out against this.

I have a suggestion for you: since the Muslim world is obviously such an earthly paradise of peace loving kumbaya singing hippie Muslims, why don't you go live in it? Frankly, I'm smirking at the idea of how well you'd go over in the Muslim world!

I never said i agreed with the riots,etc... I admitted that that a line was crossed on the muslims part.

Here's the thing Gid, I do believe in free speech. However, with that comes the responsibility to realize that at times one needs to practice discretion. You have the responsibility to deal with the outcome of your choice to excersize your free speeh Okay? THAT is my point.

Islam *is* a peaceful, orderly faith. Same as christianity and numerous others... However, their are detractors and odd balls in every faith, or group. Take a look at Pat robertson...would you chastise christianity for what he said? Or, Repbulicans...Libertarians... they all have the odd balls. Would *YOU* like to be chastised for not doing something about a fellow libertarian (correct?) said? Responsibility for ones actions... Please, you're supposed to learn that when you're young.


Some (okay, perhaps more than some) in Islam are on pins and needles...you have one faction that are nut jobs (OBL, etc...) who do horrible things and make islam look like a "horrible" faith....those who go and live life, trying to be the best muslim they can, via the Qur'an....are stereotyped...its rediculous....

Hmm...interesting.  Is any religion *really* peaceful?  How many people have died because of religion?  Catholics, Lutherans and Protestants are all Christian....how many "wars" have been because of them?  how many people have died?

Let me correct myself; the ideologies. The people on the other hand... That is why their is free will. At least from what i have read of christianity...etc... We choose our path...

Anyway...To answer your question, yes... I think the real question is: 'Is any *person* truly peaceful? The religion is primarily controlled by those in power. (Catholics = Pope...etc...) The followers can only do so much, not to say they can't change anything...

Faith is what God gave man.  Man created Religion.  And like all creations of man, it is flawed.  The tenets of most modern day religions are peace, however the practice is often otherwise.

Something that crossed my mind. Which i feel a bit stupid over not thinking about it earlier is, obviously...the so called 'muslims' (terrorists) don't give a flying fuck about who they kill. So, why *wouldnt* those muslims who, according to some, should rise up and oppose it, be afraid? They would be signing a potential death warrant. Another thing to take into consideration is the fact that we (america, europe,etc... non muslims [in those countries]) do not know everything about what is going on there. (Yes, myself included. *waits for sarcastic gasps* They (anti terrist muslims) could be out numbered.
