Graphic card prob - Geforce FX 5500

blue screen / system hangs

HI,

I have P4 system with XP sp2 installed and Nvidia Geforce Fx5500 graphic card.

From few days graphic card drivers are getting crashed resulting in blue screen.

Before i could play most of games like , Prince of persia, Call of duty..... etc

because of problems like blue screen and when i start any game system becomes very slow resulting in hanging for a while and activate the game and again hangs and so on.....

so i upgraded my RAm from 512MB to 1.2GB and 80 GB HDD to 80+250GB HDD.......

and reinstalled the OS and all drivers, now the problem becomes even worse...... Blue screen appers when i start game or it hangs .....

Can any body tell me whats the problem......

I have played most of games without any probs previously but now....!

You might need to find some utils to scan your hardware and see if their

is a issue with your system. It could be a issue with a memory stick or

a issue with the mother board ... If it's a issue with the mother board you

might need a replacement ... If it's a issue with the mother board ..

you might think about updating to a completely new system ... Right now

you can get a complete system ... at a good price ..

Dumb question first: Are you running the June 9, 2008 drivers 175.19?

If it's not an old driver issue, then perhaps you have an overheating problem. First try blowing out the dust if there is any in there, a can of compressed air does wonders. If that doesn't help much, try poping the case open and pointing a fan at it and see if things improve. If that works, then you should look into a case fan or something to help air flow. I know Baldurs Gate dislikes my computer during the summer and that game shouldn't be taxing my system one bit.

is this a guess or is this from the error code of the BSOD (blue screen)?

if the BSDO error is telling you that the video drivers are cauing the BSOD, you may have corrupt driver. but since it continued to happen after you re-installed OS I doubt the drivers is the problem.

considering the specs you gave us, P4, FX5500, 512 Ram before upgrading, I'm gonna guess the system is rather old? maybe even 5 or more years old.

Sounds to me like you have a hardware problem with the video card, power supply or possibly motherboard.

Yeah, old hardware could be a culprit. I run a FX5200 and am quite surprised it still works.

That's quite an old Graphics card in PC terms. It may be that NVidia didn't check compatibility very well with old cards for their new drivers.

From the looks of it, they have stopped drivers on these completely. That June '08 is the latest driver. ~checks calander~ Yeah I think they dropped all thought process on this series of card. It may be a hint to us though...
