I am a nap taker when I can get one. I need a lot more sleep than most people I think. I'm not as grumpy. I like to stay up late and work (best creativity time) and sleep late. Sometimes, a nap is just delicious.

Did you hear that teens aren't getting enough sleep? The average teenager needs 9 hours of sleep according to Betsy Flagler, United Feature Syndicate. Teens get about seven and a half hours on average. I remember from psychology that lack of sleep can build up and by the weekend you can be zonked. Thats why teens will sleep till 2pm on Saturdays. <
These amazing books by CS Lewis are the tales of another world and a country called Narnia. Kings, Queens, dwarfs, Satyrs, tree gods and goddesses, and a magnificent Lion who is High King over all. My daughter and I have been reading this a chapter a night since Christmas and are halfway through the books. The amazing lessons in this book are so unforgettabl
I was listening to a speaker recently who made a statement that forced me to think about who I am in relation to the world. Here's my question: Am I a microcosm of the world or a change agent in the world? I don't think I can do with the "so I don't have to think too deeply about this answer" that says, "I'm a little of both." Certainly, I do resemb
Summer reading list! Lee Strobel's books ARE amazing! here here! The Day Christ Died by Jim Bishop (He also wrote The Day Lincoln was Shot -- both are phenomenal). The fact is beatings were mandatory before crucifictions. Jews only gave forty lashes with the cat of nine tails. The Romans gave unlimited. Many didn't survive the beatings. Remember Christ's words, "My God My God, why have you forsaken me?" He often said a part o
Here here! You did a smashing job, I think. I applaud your concern for her faith while realizing that her motives weren't totally rubbish ... her immaturity and inexperience in logical thought kept her from gracefully stating her true beliefs while meeting the demands of the course. Romans tells us to submit to authority. God never says not to debate ... I don't think he'd have a problem with us trying to see things from the other person's po
A little too much consipiracy theorist for me... 1) dishonorable behavior by troops embarrasses the administration and may result in the loss of Rumsfeld. 2) The troops' behavior has caused retaliation by terrorists upon American hostages. I doubt the gov't wouldn't realize this and it isn't an acceptable loss. 3) this causes more scrutiny on the administration, not less. 4) a war going well will result in less at the pump. If that's our goal, and it i
Pleasantly surprised... except for this one: Optimists live longer.
I was listening to the radio the other day and a woman was talking about a strategy she uses with her children. I so stole the idea and it is working beautifully. I wish I remembered her name because I'd give her credit... but just so you know, this isn't my idea. It's a Saturday Box. On Sunday, I give my daughter a little money. She's fi
I built my daughter a HUGE wooden dollhouse two Christmases ago. This Christmas she got lots of furnature and some dolls for it. She set it it up quite well on her own, to my surprise. I was pleased that she saw the utility of each room. We're trying to set aside one night a week after our daily chores to work on the dollhouse. Last night we painted a few of
I saw the title of my favorite Beatles song and had to take a peek... I'm glad to see the lyrics here but... If you're not married I say leave. If you're married... geez. I know it takes a person about a year of livng the change before they're changed. IF someone claims to be changed (for future reference) remember that it takes a year of PROOF. I don't know anything about you so I don't know how you'll receive any of my advice. If you don't l
Maybe this is just a publicity stunt. No one's been talking about 'em lately. I've also heard this is just a match made by the artist formerly known as P. Diddy just to give both stars a boost in their careers. Seems to have worked. Ditto for Benifer. Funny how they didn't quite make it to the altar... there may be something to it even if you're not a conspirist. If I were a celeb trying to stay on top, obsessed with my own career, why not? <
I almost categorized this subject as "history" as I sighed heavily, approaching the topic -- ironically, with my fingers on the wireless keyboard. No one writes hand-written letters anymore. I say no one, and that's simply not true. I do, and that's at least one person. I have two friends who do and that's two more. But practically no one ha
Thanks for the first thing that's made me laugh outloud on the internet in a long time...
Blue Dev! I take it then that you're LDS? From what I know, you described it to a tee. I teach Jr. High at my church. I love my "babies" so much. (They're not babies and they know it. It's more of an affectionate term they'd never admit to liking...) I enjoy teaching this age group SO very much. My daughter is in Kindergarten this fall. I could not teach her age group though. Wow is it different. I vowed never to teach elementary again after
Unfairman -- what I was referring to, and I apologize if I wasn't as clear as I thought I was being, is that when you're making an argument in the form of a comment, sarcasm doesn't work. Oscar Wilde used more than sarcasm. He used humor. And his point was made within a body of work of substantial length. Notice the title: sarcasm and the internet . Comments to others in the form of rude sarcastic remarks usually aren't read the correct way. Did
Hey, great article. And very interesting how you came up with the name for Stardock. What book was it? Great pic, btw. I really need to check out the game -- it looks great.
This is awesome... thanks for the notice Brad! The Simpsons transend all educational lines... I think that's why its lasted so long. Kudos.
Thank you guys... been out for a while, decluttering my house. You guys really encourage me. And let me say, Shades, I truly enjoy discussing all things with you. We are polar opposites in beliefs, but podded peas in style. I admire your writing and responses. Mason and Trin -- you guys always bring me up.
I've noticed in IMing friends and on Joe here, several people try the rhetorical device of "sarcasm" for their arguments. I know I cannot possibly be the only person who has noticed this. Sarcasm doesn't work in writing. We write like we speak and just assume others will read what we write the same way we'd speak it. Not so. In fact, rarely so. Some
This is one of the few books I'm reading right now and I highly recommend you to read it with highlighter in hand! It's a non-fiction book about how to get your household managed. I have learned countless amazing tips and it has completely inspired my spring cleaning. I'm decluttering my entire home right now. I'm using Kathy's tips in every area of my hom
This is one of my favorite fiction books I've read since I got out of college. I enjoyed this book deeply. I read half of it in one day. I was entralled with the way the author told the story through the child involved. Moreover, I was kept in suspense throughout the book wondering what "really" happened. I didn't want to believe the child deserved to be whe
I've vomited with them. Nothing like vomiting when you've got a migraine... that's real pain. Sometimes I keep them for a day or two (cluster headaches) and sometimes I'll get more merciful ones. I'll try to do the bread thing ... I just get really nauteous and can't handle the thought of food usually. Imatrex makes my body burn all over so I can't take that or any of the other relief meds. A vicadin or hydrocodone is about all that will work. I hate w
I agree with Muggaz... I tend to see what more I can do, where I can push myself what I can learn. I tend to favor non-fiction books to fiction anyday. I listen to talk radio rather than music MOST of the time. (There's times when I just gotta jam, though!) Yeah, nice place to be in if you're comfy, but I'd get tired of it. I'm a debater. Constructive criticism (given fairly and politely) really fuels me. I love a good debate because it makes me better
Hey, just thought I'd say congratulations. It's been said before though. So... I'll say "Kudos on your savings plans!" It'll be the best thing that ever happend to you! Then you can buy a house and make a huge down payment! Blessings and shalom to you!
