KCIV, we all appreciate your work on the graphs. But you seem to be missing some important points from that game that your graphs don't indicate. As a data science guy, I love graphs. However, I want to caution you that a graph can lead anyone to conclude anything with the right/wrong choice of paramaters or metrics. Hence Mark Twain's famous quote about statistics... "lies, damn lies, and statistics". As I explained in the other thread, efficiency of tile usage doesn't me
Just a joke post, but i found it funny the vote and view buttons work about as well as DB :)
How Do you feel about Destroy Buyout? I love it. Late game
In the second image, the stock price graph on the bottom makes sense to me. At the time I purchased SG, cubit had higher cash + current resource reserve reserves. Meanwhile, I had a much higher stock value since I had been previously purchasing shares of other people's stock rather than stockpiling resources. This doesn't definitevely answer the question of whether a buyout was wise or not. But, it does point to the possibility that it was less risky for me than cubit (I had high stoc
Image below is from a 1v1 game where both of us had double offworlds. Despite the fact that there was no AB in the BM... we both placed our OW next to each other. Hillariously, AB comes up for auction. Guess how much it went for? http://postimg.org/image/b8j69qqhj/
I have only played a half dozen or so games of DB, so maybe my observation is naive. However, I felt I should have won my first tourney game with a dominating economy. I realize now that it was wrong to use my economic advantage to destroy a competitor until I have enough resources to destroy everyone. However, this is a nearly impossible thing to judge since in the time it takes to buy out 3 competitors, many things can happen (debt reduction, hacks, OW shipments, etc). It seems that the fir
I can play Wednesday 4:00 pm.
kingmorgan, tonight is a possibility, but sunday would be better. can you set up streaming. if you need me to do it, sunday is better.
I'd like to play, but am happy to go on the waiting list if someone more skilled than I wants in.
For those who don't know what i mean by a gently rising exponential: Assume starting food value was $60 and starting glass value was $80. A random normal generator sets starting offworld to $62 for food and $75 for glass. Gentle Growth (Longer Game) <td class="xl66" colspa
Why not have offworld prices rise over time? Start at low values (randomly distributed with a mean close to market prices on day one) which rise with a gentle exponential increase over time. I'd like to see the average offworld prices begin to become viable somewhere around day 7-8 and quickly rise to dominate thereafter, but a simple tweak of an exponent can adjust game length and/or adjust for the number of players. Benefits: Increase the viability of other mid ga
To move around the map, you have a choice of dragging the map window or scrolling by mouse movement to the edge of the window. You don't need to scroll around the map as much after the early scanning stages of the game. Use the TAB key to jump between enemy headquarters to keep tabs on what they are up to. Since you spend a lot of time in this game adjusting resources, you really want those 4 easy keys (WASD) to be mapped to something you can't do as quickly with just you
I highly recommend re-mapping the important ones to use with your left hand. Here is my setup, which modifies as few as possible from the defaults: Frequent Hotkeys Cycle Own HQs SPACE <td class=
GS, a public forum is a place for exchange of ideas and construstive discusssion. Please read a post with an open mind before ripping it apart. I was hoping that the BM aspect of the game would evolve similar to the counter-units used in conventional RTS. Of course I am not "judging each black market effect as only being good agaisnt a particular faction type" or asking for "one button for each faction" . I certainly don't think I arrived at a perfect balan
I would like to see further refinement of Soren's grouping of BM items. To encourage BM player interaction, I feel that it is necessary that the black market have a weapon to use against every civ. I also feel the black market should always have tools to combat offworld rushing. This would encourage people to seek alternate paths to victory (hacker/engineering). Finally, I would like to see a counter to early founding resource domination. I would like to see a BM balance similar to this:<
Agreed, more balanced map resources is key to a competetive match. I'm also not a fan of the random events.
Thank you, The problem seems to have resolved itself. The only thing in my system that changed since I posted in the forum was the latest steam update. There might have been a conflict with steam overlay and my Dell Display manager tool, which allows for the arrangement of desktop windows.
Since upgrading to windows 10, I can't run the game in 3440x1440. The mouse cursor doen't allign with the buttons. I though it might be a graphic driver issue, so i looked for possible overscan issues and found nothing. I can run everything else fine in 3440 and this game works in 2560x1440. Any recommendations?
I failed to state that I really enjoy this game and am currently quite addicted. However, I suspect the current state of things will lead to a very short shelf-life for me (and probably many other old farts). Perhaps I am wrong about your target audience. I suspected it would be the 30-45 age demographic with some prior RTS experience who got burned out on the twitch response characteristics of games that appealed to a younger crowd. I would be very supprised if the typical 20 year ol
I wonder if the current state of this game might miss a large percentage of its target audience. As a former RTS gaming site staff member and tournament chess player, I have a few thoughts to share about strategy in Offworld. Strategy (IMO) can loosely be defined as the deeper thought processes that affect meta-game and long-term considerations. Tactics are those short-term reactions to immediate stimulus that tend to favor automatic (twitch) responses. What sort of RTS player favors economic
