-shrug- to paraphrase someone who was in the news recently, it's not a question of personal responsibility & outcome equality, it's a question of politics. postponing the nomination seems is legal and it takes away an advantage the republicans had which was either due to coincidence or a political move on their part. i think the previous latest convention date record was held by the democrats. you'd have to be an idiot to take multim

"Speaking of heroic actions, did anyone mention our president, George W. Bush. " no, except in a negative light. "He takes council with the leaders of the various agencies and departments formed for our defence, and it falls on him to call the shots. " he ignored a lot of agencies and departments about iraq's capabilities and warnings that iraq would not be an easy place to occupy. he placed a bit too much confidence in the i

the reason he brings up yale and vietnam is probably not to show he is a smarty pants, but that he went to yale and then went to vietnam and hopes voters will think of some other guy running for president who also graduated yale at about the same time as vietnam. jon stewart made fun of kerry on the daily show with that part of the ad, saying that such a subtle jab would go over the heads of most voters. and that's why a comedy satire politcal

couchman please try to stay on topic and avoid the random bitching at the left. nj senate elections and conspiracy theories of presidential candidates dropping out have nothing to do with a discussion on the electoral college (that thing mentioned in the article title and has 4 points/counterpoints made). i am a democrat and i am making the case for the electoral college even though my guy lost in 2000. i have no idea if locomama is left or ri

draginol, let me say specifically: i do not think you are a rightwing kook. i do think your article title about the 'left killing millions yearly' was rightwing kooky sounding, even with the fact of a ddt ban, just as my example of a title 'conservatives give thousands of children asthma' was leftwing kooky sounding, even with the fact of loosening of air pollution laws. i didn't know you were against taking away the right to vote from anyone

well, you state that you "don't believe we should take away the vote from anyone", but you also wrote earlier, "I do believe that everyone should have to pay some sort of minimal federal tax in order to be allowed to vote or they need to serve in the military." it's hard to reconcile the latter position (written months ago) with the former position (written minutes ago). but

when you write articles titled "the left kills millions yearly" , people will get the odd idea you are a rightwing kook. funky, huh? not to mention your views on disenfranchising those who don't pay x amount in taxes are in conflict with the 26th amendment.

Reply By: Solitair --------------------- People need to realise that you can critise both sides simultaneously. You can critise American treatment of prisoners while at the same time deploring the killing of Americans. They are not mutually exclusive. Important issues shoiuld not just go away. They should be seen to be solved, and this takes time. --------------------- some people want to concentrate on those who only show outrage

My country, right or wrong; if right, to be kept right; and if wrong, to be set right. -Senator Carl Schurz Many people currently complain that the news media refuses to move on from the Abu Ghraib story. They seem to believe the story should be reported for a short time and then...I don't know. Not be shown agai

whether france, germany, polynesia, or the country formerly known as burma ever did anything bad is totally and utterly irrelevant to the fact that american soldiers have committed abuses against prisoners in our custody. it's not just europeans that are screaming over this little fact. i have been hanging around 3 or 4 centrist forums and have yet to hear anyone of reasonable writing skill or intelligence call for bush's impeachment. i don't

yeah that was a nice reference for wwii buffs. not the simpsons, but on the star trek episode of futurama where the original series cast were stranded on a planet with fry and everyone else, there was a scene where leela's ship had to fire its weapons. two beams of energy fired out of the front of the ship in two directions each pointed slightly away from each other (the left beam pointed somewhere off to the left, the right beam fired slightl

I'm sorry but when American soldiers start burning Iraqi POWs to death and hanging them upside down from bridges then come talk to me about outrage. Punish the soldiers at fault and move on. It's disgusting that this is getting the level of coverage it gets given that we JUST had these atrocities commited against Americans a few

Reply #6 By: Super Baby - 5/5/2004 11:32:50 PM You mean it actually took more than a year? I'm surprised the left wasn't demanding that the soldiers leave Japan by the beginning of 1946. good thing we had the righty truman in power then... {insert giant roll-eye emoticon}

The firebombings of Dresden and Tokyo...the clearing out Japanese pillboxes with flame throwers in the South Pacific...the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki...all these would not have happened and the bloodiest conflict in history would have lasted years longer and killed millions more had we not been willintg to totally c

---------------------------------- Reply By: Anthony R. Posted: Saturday, May 01, 2004 This controversy is just ridiculous. American college hazing is a lot worse than this alleged “prisoner torture.” Perhaps the Iraqis would rather go back to the good old days. Saddam would’ve had their tongues amputated, or thrown them off three story buildings, or worse. ---------------------------------- of the qualities that people admir

I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all. i thought bush was the hare. he spent a huge amount of money versus kerry and got very little to show for it. plus that purple heart issue helped more than hurt kerry: his fitness reports all say he was an excellent leader, and the other side looks bad for making accusations about a war wound while bush was in no place to have a chance at getting one.

i really like avantbrowser. the "url alias" feature is great since i can type in something like "ny" and get to the new york times. really good for stuff i don't go to often enough to use on my links bar and mostly quicker than going into favorites. it was easier for me to learn how to manage tabs than in other programs.
