Can't agree more, coastalcarolina. I'm running quite a few different apps, some of which I am fairly sure are memory hogs, and it's just all fun and games. WindowBlinds, WindowFX with tons of transitions (often even switched off the "small windows only" toggle), DesktopX, SysMetrix, lots of other apps... everything nice and fast. If I play power-hungry games I simply turn off most of that - and voila, nice speedy system. As a previous post said - occasional clean re-installs help too. K

Personal experience: WB is fast. It's stable. It's beautiful. I've been using it since pre-1.0 days and loved it more and more with every release. WB is what many other programs are not: Very stable, very usable, very cool. Congrats, Stardock, and especially congrats on a well deserved positive review.

You can easily do what LabelsWin does without paying the moogabucks. There are a few hidden system files in each folder, one of which allows you to set what icon a folder is supposed to have. Forgot which one, but should be easy to find with a web search. The colorization is done by swapping the icon to a differently colored icon.

The article has it pretty straight. I myself use Linux on my work desktop - because in that environment I can be more productive with Linux than I could with Windows, at least without spending significant amounts of money. At home I use Windows XP on my desktop, and have a small in-house Linux server. I'm a little torn on this issue. On one side, yes, with some games/programs you really don't need to worry about pirates, as they are essentially based on the internet, and as such you can verify everything server-side. MMORPGs come to mind there. However, if its on a local machine, there simply IS NO WAY to implement any effective copyprotection. Personally, I think that people in general just are not educated enough. They click on everything they see, including spamvertisements, yet complain about spam in their inboxes. Same with that worm and various viruses. They all strive on the carelessness of users AND IT DEPARTMENTS. Both are to blame. Bashing M$ for making crappy software is all nice and dandy, but it doesn't help the problem at all. There have been serious security flaws in pretty much any major OS and major software.

Their network, their ressources, their money. Their choice. Simple... if they decide to upgrade the protocol, for whatever reason, they are NOT obliged to even tell anyone else. That they did indeed tell people does, IMO, point towards a rather gentle push towards the 3rd party vendors to follow suit and get legal. After all, if they really wanted to, they could easily push 3rd party clients off their servers by dragging them to court. Btw, using Trillian Pro
