The New System of weapon types is great. Puts more stategic thought into building ships rather than who can crank out the most.
Star Ranger
Good Review - I"m looking forward to the full review
So - how are the econmonics in beta 5? Many good arguments above - are trade routes still the same in CIv 1? What is different?
While we havn't reached that point in production yet, I suspect espionage will also play a pivotal role in being able to see improvements build on an alien planet. Ex: Lets say you start off with knowledge of 0/100% of planetary improvements made on a planet. Factor in you 'super sensor technology' (+20%), a espionage rating of 3 (+30%), and 2 espionage drones in the p
Bump for update for status - I didn't see any weapons platforms or planet defenses in game (bonuses to ship defense dont count). Did I just not play long enough or it is not in the game?
Bumping again because it seems the AI is allowed to "cheat" again. I've been playing the beta and all races (save the humans - or your custom race) can't start with stellar catography. To answer your question (as far as I can), Brad Wardell has stated in another thread:Link The AI still has to deal with the fog of war. That was the case in GalCiv 1 and it
I think its bogus that 4 fighters could ever take out a battleship. Looks like someone should re-write the combat code. One thing to limit the fighter to only traveling with a "carrier". That way a personal can't cheaper stockpile hordes of fighters in their system. Another idea - have point defenses fire FIRST before fighters (reguardless who is the attacker). This way cruisers and other ships which are anti fighter truely have a role in fleet combat. <img
but how much fun would it really be to personally fight battles that you know you can probably win just because you know the AI's "Achilles heal"? That would get boring in a hurry DId you read my first statement Citizen Martok - Ever heard of Moo 2? One of the best selling games of all time. Obviously people didn't think it was that boring!
Tactical is the bomb. Moo2 proved tactical is immensly popular reguardless if the AI is good or not. However, Galciv from the getgo has not had a tactical focus - which is unfortunate IMHO. Frogboy has some personal vendetta against tactical - but that's his call as developer. I hope in future versions of galciv that tactical starship combat gets put in.
I agree with with no multiplayer. Galciv 1 and 2 aren't made to be multiplayer games. AI is a better option given the long nature of games.
I"d like ot say my 2 cents - Half life was a great game - but I like you, don't beleive it was all "that". One major beef of mine was the steam registration system - not that you have to register - but that its damm complicated to play a game offline - ouch!
I love the idea - even if it is only automatic - its exciting!
you need to upgrade. It's the same reason they don't make the game for windows 95.
SE V does make some great headway into the space. BRad - I salute you in showing respect to a good game. I think it is good to have friendly competition on Computer gaming.
This is all AIR, and I may just be completely lost in space. Guess that's why you are te Star pilot
They could have a "matrix" like relationship with the organic life forms. They use them as fuel - but in a re-usable way - which is effcient - rather then "burn" through them like fuel.
Thanks for the update Brad. We appreciate the good effort to communicate
But does it scale as you go up the tech tree Carielf?
Frogboy - You might want to move or hide the crash reports from appearing in the Recent posts (which is visible to all)- If I was a web visitor - and did not know anything about this game - seeing posts like - Game crashes on save and Ship design bug, etc. One might thinkn GalCIv 2 is a very buggy game and should be avoided. I think keeping the beta feedback only to the beta testers would help prevent new visitors form getting the wrong idea about GC2.
need more posts like this

A good example of a weapon used to defend a planet is a system defense gun. Strong enough to blow away transports and fighters, but crusier and larger craft could destroy it.
I'm hoping we can change some tiles with Terraform technology form nonuseful to useful.
Yes - but is he saying - have things have a fixed cost or "space" or have things scale with Size?
So - to those in the know - what planet defesnes are going to be in the game? and the second Question - wait for it....... Can a planet "be safe" from invasion if no Space ship is defending it? As far as what "be safe"means is -in GC 1 - if you didn't have a ship in orbit - anyone with a transport could walk right in and invade. I'm HOPING that space states or other orbital definenses can prevent the need of always needing a ship to protect a planet.
