I simply can't understand it myself. I'd have thought that between love/nudity and hate/violence I'd much rather my children were exposed to the first instead of the second. I'm much more concerned about a computer game that would let my children go around shooting people, hacking at them and spraying blood everywhere than a game that would expose them to nudity. When I hear of the fuss made by some people over sexual content in a highly violent game, I shake my head in disbelief - do

Because experimentation with sexuality before reaching a level of maturity high enough to deal with it properly is the cause of a great many problems currently in the world. Murder, at least, is shunned widely enough that inmature audiences don't tend to imitate it nearly as much, and the same goes for "politically-incorrect" forms of speech such as nazism, so widely feared throughout Europe. Personally I don't like censorship of any kind, and I'm a strong atheist so its clearly not m
Hearts of Iron III almost makes me cry with how complex it is, and the same goes for its prequel. I can manage my thriving empires well enough in both EU3 and EU:Rome, but with the HoI series I've yet to survive more than half a year in it. Sword of the Stars is a pretty fun strategy game as well, and the AI is competent enough too but dunno if it'd please you, it's far simpler than even the Total War series let alone something like Europa Universalis. The recently-released Fo
On the Steam forums there was a post by a Bioware dev confirming there's no New Game+ mode on Dragon Age :( pity, it was my favorite feature of NWN and Mass Effect, the ability to take my rear-kicking hero decked in shiny armor through the entire campaign, decimating anything in his path. Though apparently you do keep the specializations you unlocked, well, unlocked so you *can*, with proper care, make a Champion/Reaver spec'd Warrior if you'd like. As for the blood, you can easily cl
Its probably a memory leak, Mass Effect had the same problem (except that instead of running slower, the game crashed to the desktop instead). And to those who've already finished it, I have a couple questions: first, what level were you at by the end of the game? secondly, is there any way to replay the game after you beat it, but keeping your old character's stats and items as in Mass Effect? and third, if there is such a thing, do you keep the 'unlocked' status of the specializatio
Well, on Redcliff I decided to go for the panoramic route (y'know, paying a visit to the mages and such) and I must say, I had to fight some of the best RPG bosses ever to finish it. I also did both DLC quests, fairly fun with interesting rewards for both of them, but I wish they had been longer, specially that of the Keep which didn't expand on its backstory as much as I would've wished.
Hi guys, I'm really interested in getting Dragon Age but am worried about its performance on my PC. Will I be able to run it at 1900x1200? I'm a human male warrior, starting out for the 4th time after I was dissapointed at my character's looks and voice the first two times, and threw away the third one right before becoming a Grey Warden after (finally!) learning how to activate my Deluxe/PreOrder bonus. So far, the game hits the perfect spot between the hardcore roleplaying of Baldur's Gate 2 and the 'dungeon crawler with a plot' of Neverwinter Nights and I'm *loving* it. Worth $65? worth it, completely.
The most surprising thing is, I've yet to encounter a negative opinion of the game. Any. At all. Not just gaming websites, but regular users as well, opinions pretty much range from "best RPG of this generation" to "best RPG ever made". Me, I bought it on Steam as Impulse is NA-only, and its preloading slooooooowly... no biggie, as its not released until a couple hours 'round here (it was apparently pushed forward a day, was gonna be tomorrow). First game I pay full price for since Me
For ePSXe, Golgoth, why can't you install it? 64-bit Windows comes with 32-bit compat libraries so it shouldn't have a problem with it, does it show an error? if so post it, perhaps we can help you troubleshoot it. As for Neverwinter Nights it's a single-player RPG, though you can play it multiplayer cooperatively like Diablo 2 or such and I believe there are mods to play it as an MMO as well. But at its heart, NWN is still a traditional, single-player RPG (one highly recommended btw,
Ugh. Ugh. UGH. I fell for the hype, I fell for all your opinions, and finally preordered the Deluxe version on Steam (yes, preorder, the game doesn't come out 'til tomorrow here in South America). I hope either Impulse and Steam refuse to make any 'must-have' deals from now until ~Feb 2010, or I find a better-paying job by then because those $65 murdered whatever little was left of my entertainment budget and then some. I hope its worth it. Now, gotta go job-hunting :D
Sounds pretty nice, I must admit, but I'm wondering: how does it compare to Mass Effect, in terms of storytelling, roleplaying and such? because I generally prefer sci-fi settings in my RPGs and I don't know whether I should wait for ME2 or just bite the bullet, sacrifice all my other gaming purchases this year, and get this.
good to know! but can projectiles hit units you werent aiming for? i thought SotS was a turn-based game?
SotS is kinda like the Total War series: turn-based strategy with real-time battles. I don't know whether they could hit other stuff though, I suppose the game allows for it but given how slow most ships are I'd say its unlikely.
XP 64-bits is a steaming pile of bulldrops, and the switch to 64-bits is, in my opinion, completely worth it and best done early. I've heard of many people having troubles with getting the 32-bit version of Win7 to play with their apps for some reason, it appears the 32-bit compat mode of the 64-bit version works better than the "real deal" so if you must stay with the hopelessly outdated 32-bit x86 architecture, stay with XP. So, to sum it up in order of preference: Win7-64 -> Win
Another game: Assassin's Creed. Fantastic game, with a gameplay that makes simple exploring fun, and an incredible amount of openness in its missions... with a roughly half-an-hour long mandatory introduction where 30% of the time is spent listening to a woman teach you how to move, 10% is actually making said movements, and the remaining 60% of the time is spent staring at the multiple loading screens. Seriously. "Move forward with the W button" *presses W* "You moved! congratul
Or maybe Rhapsody (Sarcasm detector is going off)
Rhapsody is a great game, its pretty much like Final Fantasy: Tactics except without the difficulty, the Chocobos, and the insane amounts of emo. Pity that they removed *far* too much of the difficulty, though, even boss encounters are about as hard as your average random encounter in FF:T, and random encounters are just pathetic. In fact, I think I'm gonna search for the disc, dust off my PS2 and replay it ju
:( pity, gonna have to buy it from Steam then. There's a demo available, for those of you interested, it is pretty much Yet Another Diablo Clone but with beautiful graphics, lots of charm, and some very interesting pet mechanics, primarily the fact that you can send them to sell off your loot while in the middle of a dungeon but also that you can use them as storage, and even give them items to equip. Sadly, unlike Diablo III, it still lacks pants ;)
Morpheas: you seem to have missed the tongue-in-cheek nature of my post ;) I thought the "get off my lawn" comment made it obvious enough, but apparently not. Anyways, it *is* a brilliant RPG and highly recommended if you value openness of action, though even the best interfaces seem painfully outdated graphic-wise by today's standards. Alway: Freelancer isn't an RPG, it's a space sim. If you liked it, I'd recommend you try X3, I have Reunion and its excellent, and I've heard Terran C
NetHack , you kids, the granddaddy of them all. How many of these new-fangled "RPGs" of yours allow you to wield a monster's corpse as a weapon? how many of them offer completely randomized dungeons where entire levels may be bypassed simply by pointing a wand at the floor and zapping it? how many allow you to equip a lance, mount a warhorse and *joust* at demons? thought so. Go try it and you'll see what a *real* RPG is like. Though y
As the joke goes, "adding 8 more women won't get you a baby in a month". Me, I'm happy that we're getting two new Demigods at all but, in the mean time, I'm having lots of fun with what we already have :)
Why?
Because I've yet to encounter *anyone* who was in favor of cultivating hemp and in favor of criminalization. Show me its so-called advantages are independant of your own little addiction and I may take you seriously, but not before.
Try living on a diet of milk alone. Congratulations, you're married to what we in the biz call a "casual gamer" :) game suggestions, I second Peggle (multiplayer is specially addicting with a willing partner/victim), and I'll add both Braid and Droplitz to the mix. And I know this is gonna sound very weird but... err... how about Left 4 Dead? women in general tend to look at the whole 'zombie' thing not too kindly and it *is* a violent game (in that juvenile, 10-liters-of-high-pressure-blood-per-meatbag way so prevalent
I'm 100% in favor of cultivating hemp, as long as smoking it is punishable by 20 years to life. Besides, if what you want is food efficiency, you should be looking at milk, not plants.
I third the recommendation for Sword of the Stars. The non-warfare aspects of strategy are fairly dumbed down, and the tactical battles are more of an annoyance than a feature, at least for me (thankfully they can be skipped though), but there's *something* about the game that makes my imagination fly, imagining myself as the supreme commander of humanity leading them in a quest for the stars, rather than simply a guy sitting in front of his computer playing a videogame. And I also se
