I love playing on extremely large maps (usually single star) with my brother and some friends (SoaSE Rebellion). Usually it is either 1vs1 or a 2vs2, and the matches tend to last anywhere between 2 and 4 hours with maximum population armies! We sometimes play co-op against the AI, but the games also last a very long time on those biggest maps. As far as i know, it is Valve's final choice on do the keys get accepted over Steam for SoaSE. It is quite possible Valve intentionally declined activation of old SoaSE keys in hopes of getting players to buy a brand new SoaSE. For example, i have the SoaSE + DLC from many years ago (not steam) - but when rebellion was on Steam sale i bought it, just to have SoaSE on steam.
Can there be an option to make the pathing AI for all ships choose a "safer" (instead of shortest) path along the phase lines? I hate when my diplomatic envoy or my fleet reinforcements (who are rallied to my conquering fleet) automatically decide to go through the fully armed hostile Pirate Base, which is a guaranteed death...
