Update - 4 games in a row where someone has dropped
GnomeChomp
Both HoN and LoL have an option for players to reconnect to their game if they drop, for example if they crash or lose their connection temporarily. What is the chance of implementing this feature in Demigod? The reason I ask is because I just played 2 consecutive games where a player dropped before the game even started and the next game after that a player dropped 2 minutes in.
Where are the naysayers like Extracide now, lol? Erebus was nerfed and is he now UP? Nope, he's more balanced - so all the people who said he was fine at the start of the thread F U, I was right and you were wrong lol
"And Gnome Chomp how old are you have you actually worked on comparable projects?" I used to work as a programmer for almost 2 years. I'm now in a different business in which I'm the line manager of around 50 people. At this stage, I wouldn't risk a business on Demigod (at which only about 150 are still playing) however I would like to think I wouldn't let it reach this point either. The community for Company of Heroes went from strength to strength due to constant
There are no stats prior to July. I would love to see stats for when the game was released. I bet it was much higher than 500.
"It's starting to level out (as it is expected for any game)." lol dude, its not expected to level out at 100 players. Maybe 3-4 years after the game has been released. Just out of interest do you work for GPG or do you just blindly defend this game for no reason? Were figures prior to July not recorded, or have they been deliberately left out so people don't realise how many people have left?
I think based on this thread we can all agree that GPG no longer has a big commitment to Demigod.
I knew you'd say that.
What worries me is that this is going to split the community again as with the other beta releases. There are too few people in the community already.
I rest my case.
To prove my point, let's check out the number of changes to DOW 2 in the same space of time:
[-] October 15, 2009 - Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II Update Released</strong
"Just imagine for a few moments you have Chris Taylor's job and you have to make sure that your company will be still existing a year or two from now and your employees still have a job. You just can't delay projects like SupCom2 or Dungeon Siege III because they are your future. Sure they could completely focus on Demigod and go out off business right afterwards. GPG is not Blizzard with almost unlimited resources and fresh cash every month. Right now they are between games and have
"Which major updates? Stardock can't change anything in the game itself. They can only change the ImpulseReactorOverlay and the ImpulseReactor itself." All major fixes to network problems in the first month after release were from Stardock, also the overlay, etc. This is despite the obvious difficulties they have in changing the game. What changes have GPG introduced AT ALL? Changing some stats? Introducing the desync? If it was down to GPG we would still be un
Even if you would know, you can't infer small commitment from that, simply because of the limited resources that are available, without sacrificing other projects. All this should be common sense really
That doesn't seem like commen sense to me. I think if GPG showed half the commitment to DG post-release that Stardock did we would already have the new Demigods and fixes, and probably a much bigger community

"Ah, yes, but that applies to any 5v5 game" I know, and that is my point. I think when the best solution is to "just rehost" we have another good reason why this game's popularity has dropped so much.
If you are referring to a PuG 5 vs 5 then I don't think that is an accurate statement. And its not just simspeed, its bandwidth as well which isn't affected as much by map size.
I won't speak for anyone else but the frustration isn't from waiting for new Demigods, but the countless bugs with the game. I would gladly swap 2 new Demigods for a robust client-server netcode with plenty of features, support for clans, matchmaking and competitive play. The fact is this is the only thing that will reverse the decline in popularity for DG. Two new Demigods will see a temporary increase in support and then the downard trend will continue. Incidently,
"The auto-balance feature will effectively remove our capacity to play together outside of 2s, which I find very disappointing." Well it would, unless the host was given the ability to lock slots, like HoN. In HoN, this allows a premade to fit into a game and the teams are then balanced around them, assuming there are spaces left on the premade's team. However this isn't really going to be much value if you only ever get 3 vs 3 games in DG.
"Obviously I don't call the shots, but I strongly disagree with a further reduction of auto-matching, I just think most people play themselves into a rut with the ceaseless Cataract showdowns and that ultimately this kind of tool is just another anti-premade measure." Actually auto-balance is a semi-solution to anti-premades. The problem with premades is that is gives players the impression that games are inherently unfair from the start. With a good auto ba
"So whats keeping you around GnomeChomp?" I've paid my money, so I'll get my two pence worth thanks very much. "Demigod's NetCode is fine, as I've already explained in several other threads where you've made this comment" Not even going to justify this with an answer. "And you're not in a position to speak for anyone other than yourself, so please refrain from speaking out of your ass." But being a lackey fanboy qualifies you to say otherwise? I'l
Easy answer, HoN works well, Demigod barely works and is held together by poor netcode and tacked-on overlays. Most gamers can't even be bothered trying to start a game of Demigod.
Continuing from RAWR: 3) You must indoctrinate yourself with the mantra that lag is the players' fault, not the game's, even though no other game lags like Demigod. 4) You're a minimalist person - you just don't need all the extra features of modern mulitplayer games - like votekick, swapping slots in the lobby, and robust handling of disconnects. 5) You love desyncs. What better way to end a game than for the whole thing to break at any random
You forgot to mention the seemingly endless number of shills and lackeys that keep telling us the problems with Demigod aren't really problems, they are either features or our fault.
Is that because Heroes of Newerth is a better game? No - cos its not. Or is it because: The beta network service is already better than Demigod's is now. The interface is about a million times more feature-rich than Demigod, e.g. the host can do simple things like force players to switch slots. There is no lag because of the client-server interface (wait, I thought RTS games HAD to be peer 2 peer?) 90% of the games played are
