Skinny, A heartfelt public thank you for your private message support. Good Karma to you! Also congratulations on "movin' on up", I note your new badges of honor including the 10 battles one. The Gerontocracy shall rise again, lol.

Thank you gentlemen. Mumblefratz, I had no idea there was a difference between military rating and ranking, lol. I most assuredly do now and I appreciate your patient primer. You always give such good information and I learn a lot from your posts. Good karma to you. I now know that I was asking about military ranking. If I can impose just a bit further though I had several more questions for you. 1) What does IIRC mean? 2) You discussed in another post using a mil
Does anyone know what is relevant when the computer is calculating your military prowess? (i.e. the military chart line) Does it take into consideration attack points, defense points, hit points, hull size....some of these, all of these...or some weird combination? Are these weighted in some way? I am curious because once I have my spin control center built I'd like to optimize the ships in orbit around the SCC for the best "masirovka" (Russian for misdirection, particularly m
Nope, a crack Drathan science team traded diplomatic translators to the Terrans in exchange for his DNA and reconstituted him to be their war leader. There were, *ahem*, a few minor modifications, otherwise how can you explain history's most rabid abolitionist being so fond of churning out slave pits on his industrial planets?
I thought I would solicit opinions, advice, tips and tricks on the asteroid mines. So far they haven't been a major part of my game because: 1. You have to build more space miners and I am generally busier building constructors and war ships. 2. They take so long to turn an asteroid into a mine (is there a way to speed this up? Is it always five rounds?) 3. Bunches of them defect to me throughout the game anyway. Yet, I never remember to go back and optimize where
Skinny, That's weird. I also turned off my other victory conditions because I didn't see how I could achieve a military victory if I had the cultural win on. The cultural win would kick in well before I could finish a military victory. I didn't have that problem. Wish I could say something helpful, but I don't know what to do, I just chimed in to commiserate.
Just to clarify a little on what Loupdinour said, you can "threaten" someone into giving you stuff. You simply put what you want (ship, tech, money, etc) on their side of the diplo screeen, put nothing on yours, and click send. Sometimes they will just give you stuff, but as Loupdinour says, the conversation tree doesn't make you feel very threatening. I wish this threatening approach was better developed too.
Very cool discovery, I have never found a precursor ship yet, even after playing for several months. Good for you! I have two quick suggestions for the laggy problem (which I did experience) to add to InfernalRS's comments. First, play around with the Throttle Frame Rate setting in the video options. Try it one way and then the next. Next, make sure your video driver's are updated. You can also fiddle with the other video options, but the first two made all the difference for me.
Hullo Gentlemen, May I have some of the tartar scones too? With the butter please? I'm proud to annouce I just finished my first game since joining this delightful gang of old farts and I have 144,000 Kzinti ears, err....points to add to our empire. Also, for Skinny, I think my avatar is now working. It's John Brown!
Hi Zydor, I am overwhelmed at the length and thoroughness of your response! Thank you! I am somewhat tech-savvy for a non IT person and have done most of what is one your list as part of my normal computer maintenance routine. Except, duh, I hadn't checked for new drivers in a few months. Most of the issue went away when I disabled the frame rate throttle and once I updated the Nvidia driver with the Jan 9th iteration. Since then everything has been running great. I really appreciate
Gentlemen, Thanks for the kind welcomes, Merci, Gracias, etc (don't know the Chinese for thank you). I got my avatar to work finally, pshew!, but AdriansCamaro it is not my Lieutenant Count Alejandro Montoya one, but my John the Revelator one (John Brown, scary abolitionist, perhaps coolest and most interesting American). You will be able to see the Montoya avatar when I post a 100,000 score and Neilo makes me an ambassador. I'll try to get it done this weekend, because he is ind
I find that the early colony rush is quite important, so I would check out the many posts that discuss this. The more planets you can grab initially the more of those fantastic colony HQs you will have, and equally important, the less the AIs will have. Be very careful though because you can melt your economy down is you expand to fast. There is a fine balance to this which you'll develop a feel for over a few games. I second the notion of getting the spin control center sooner rather
Thanks GW. Sorry about the name changes that was related to trying to get my avatar image to load. Turns out Stardock broke something and needs to fix it. They're working on it. I should officially be a Gerontocrat with my Jebediah Stormcrow character now, so hopefully my points have been added to the group. I'm working on a suicidal game right now that when I finish should toss a few more points on the table. BTW, what does AFAIK mean?
Neilo says: Great to have you with us...be sure to check out the private forums of the Tyranny of Evil...(link in the OP) plenty going on over there. I say: Hunh? Neilo, what's the OP?
I'm wondering, and perhaps Skinny and Infernal are too, how we become senators of the Gerontocrats? I'd like my rocking chair out on the deck on those nice days too. Huzzah for us breaking 3M!! I hope us newcomers helped!
How do I open a support ticket? Just send an email?
BTW, how do I get my John Brown image to show here?
Nah, Skinny, not a reference to the KKK. What a question on Martin Luther King, Jr. day. Clansmen is for Clan Lindsey a fine Scottish family, and I just like old fashion names and images. I'm a major history and mythology buff. I have this cool image of John Brown (the abolitionist) I want to use as my avatar.....ergo the civil war motif. I always thought the phrase "the Great War of Northern Aggression" was pretty funny, but I like your "Great War of Southern Intransigence" too,
Thanks Neilo & Cypher!! Quick question....how do I upload my avatar image? I went to forums.stardock.com, my account, images, and clicked on the "upload file" for avatar but nothing happens. What am I doing wrong?
Fellow sentients, may a new Lieutenant join your ranks? Lieutenant Count Alejandro Montoya of the Imperial Inquisition at your service. I've brought some roasted Kzinti nuggets as my empire tribute. They taste like chicken........
Hello Gerontocrats, the Clansmen are here! It took us awhile to find the empire, 'bout 400 years or so, but our eyes don't always work so well, the black powder burns and all, ya know....however our Nightmare Torpedoes are fully up-to-snuff, and we have lots of leftover Civil War armaments to make things interesting for those mangy, flea-bitten Kzinti hair-balls. May we join you? General Jebediah Stormcrow 1st Battalion Mississippi Marine Brigade Cavalry The Great
LOL! I wish! Sorry, my Dell 24" monitor I mean! I'm actually typing this on my apple laptop and squinting to see. I think my old eyes could benefit from something larger than this laptop screen. Which is why I got a 24" for my desktop. Which still doesn't always help. Or maybe I just need to stop putting everything at maximum resolution for the crisp sharp image.....which is so tiny I can't see it. Seriously, even with a 24" monitor, with the resolution set to 1920 x 1200 I ST
I've read a lot on these forums about economics and the argument for different population levels. However, I can't say that I feel any clearer about what most people actually do during their games? Obviously, a 20 population is better for influence and resisting invasion but comes with a much tougher morale problem. Yet, does morale matter? What does it affect? Actual tax revenues? Final game score? The psychology of perfectionist players who just can't stand to see a morale number in
I've adopted a play style where I litter my planet with slave pits first, because they are cheap and easy to build, and give me production points quickly, and then later I upgrade the slave pit to a manufacturing plant, stock market, or other high-end improvement. This *appears* to be working great, but, reading through some of these posts, there are some very technical people out there, who apparently teach differential calculus for a living, that can probably confirm that this is eithe
