Will probably pick up Entrenchment in a week or so.
Entrenchment not only adds new units, but lots of actual performance boosts as well. I can't think of a reason to not buy entrenchment now instead of later.

What exactly are the problem(s)? I understand the keybindings not transferring over, but can you be more specific about the joining issue?
There was a thread just up on this, but the expansion is designed such that you can launch either regular or the expansion, much like Starcraft.
It might mean people saying "Hey, i want a starbase too!!" Or i woulda whooped him if i had all those structure killer ships too!"
Blizzard does that with WoW; no idea how effective it is, though. WoW has a much larger playerbase, and splitting them between the haves and the have nots isn't as big of a deal. The expansions are also more than just new units - they also include engine and AI improvements. If 'entrenchment
I'm willing to pay double for better scaling - higher utilization of multicore processors, 64-bit executable to use 4+ gigs ram. Granted, 'double' only means $20, and it costs a lot more than $10 extra to develop that. Who else would be willing to pay $10 extra bucks for this?

It's been there since the beginning . It was removed for a time , but now it does work and it's a tactic some people use . Click move, move the mouse to where you want them to go, hold your Z-axis key, and move the mouse up and down.
On low-end systems (eg ATI X1250), there seems to be an high graphical performance hit from shield bubbles. This is a really low priority request, but if it's easy/cheap to do, I would appreciate a .setting file entry to disable shield bubble effects. It's not something most people would do, so there's no need for the effort to code it into the options menus. Like I said, not a big deal, but if it shows up, it'd be nice (:
Well, try: this (spybot) this (IE7 reinstall) this (.NET reinstall) impulse reinstall. That don't work, your box is probably just fubared: run>cmd>del c:\wind
Impulse does not require a subscription, but it allows you to buy subscriptions through it. A quick search shows that I can buy a WinCustomize subscription for 30$. Think of Impulse as more of a store than a magazine or a game patch file.
Speaking of cross-platform games, MS has been trying to launch a gaming API built on .NET in such a way where you can make a game that works on the PC and XBOX360 with the same 'executable', despite the fundamental machine architecture being radically different. Reportedly, there was a presentation at GDC, so yas probably know about it already. I haven't used it, so I don't know how fast/functional/easy to develop in it is
Hrm. Failing that, I'd try updating everything - drivers, OS, etc. OP says he's 1 service pack behind.
Are you running any idle tasks, say BOINC or Folding@home? In particular, GPU projects from either cause that issue for me; simply disabling them solves my problem.
1 is correct. There's probably something else peculiar going on besides Sins....
The main problem that I see is how do you provide adequate controls for this in real-time? The 10-button layout is awesome and helpful, but it has it's limits. A series of drop-down boxes to the right of them doesn't sound pretty or easy to learn. I'd like to see a photoshop mockup of how you'd do this. CPU time is actually not an issue if this is implemented as issuing additional user actions through a 'helper AI'. The game model does not depend on user actions being determin
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned it yet - Stardock /Microsoft 's new DRM scheme ( GOO ) should address this exact problem. I wonder if this will be rolled out to Sins and Entrenchment. edit: Misread the news article.
It's usually easier to set up a wireless network than string wires all over the house. Completely modding the game by hand to match the current patch is less work that getting internet to another computer in the house? I think we're trying to solve the wrong problem here.
Buying and installing entrenchment will bring both regular sins and entrenchment up to date. Clarification: When you install impulse and register your vanilla sins game, it will show that updates are available for it and offer to patch it for you. There is no hunting around for install files, it just works. Entrenchment is only available online; this makes it cost 10$ instead of 20$. Buying entrenchment allows your account to install it - it shows up as 'Available' nex
It's that video card.
Based on my measurements and those from the threads I linked, this game is generally CPU-bound rather than GPU-bound; nonetheless, it's easy for you to check if your gpu is your bottleneck. Save a game where there is a spot that runs slowly and then bottom out the graphics settings. I do concede that the 8800 is rather weak compared to the rest of your specs, though, so even if it isn't bo

There's been several threads on this over the past few months - here's a few: https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/339047/page/1/ https://forums.stardock.com/341791/page/1/ http://tgnforums.stardock.com/333902 It's just the way things are. Unless you have something like a Core i7 at 5ghz+, it will
Stardock isn't immune from Murphy's Law - servers will go down. It's very nice of Stardock to be able to get them up rather quickly when they do fail. Consider the convenience of Impulse backup, updates, and purchases against the annoyance that, for one night, prevents you from playing a game with a friend where one and only one of you didn't update before meeting up. Is it really that big of a deal? If the servers were down long, down often, and the game couldn't be fired up without
Compared to the new Entrenchment trailer , it's impressive to see how far the game has come.
Any other games of this sort (strategy/ empire building) that you know work on 64-bit would be appreciated also.
I have yet to find a game that works on XP that will NOT work on Vista 64-bit. Also, if you look at the benchmarking systems for games that the major review sites use (like hardocp, tomshardware, anandtech), all of them are Vista64.
