Right now, the problem is that the cable companies business model has fallen apart. For years, they sold $50 cable modem connections knowing that 90% of their users were using trivial amounts of bandwidth per month (some surfing, email). But not anymore. &

When, you require a company to sell their network to others at cost, you discourage further advancement of that network. The investment costs cannot be profited from in such a situation. You're unable to compete with your own network, the scenario demands minimal marg

Bad company decisions = lower profits. The problem is, they do not understand the basic economics involved. What they are doing is essentially increasing the price (by adding the grief which comes with DRM) and expecting the demand to inc
Actually, it will have DRM. My apologies, I make the distinction between copy protection (physical, disk-based like Sims 3) and DRM (online activation, etc). Most usually take them to be the same thing, but it's not really. Red Alert 3 had DRM with activations and such (but no disk check, if I remember correctly). Fallout 3 didn't have DRM, but had copy protection (disk check).
I suppose the

And as usual, the most vocal is usually the minority, including you. Not even close. I'm in the biggest majority of all, those who didn't buy the game due to a complete lack of interest in it. That's the vast majority of the human race.
Touchy.</p

If it becomes a trend with EA-published games, then we can analyze which game types don't have it as opposed to which do, and all the other goodies of that nature. Until then, it's just one title that doesn't have DRM. My personal opinion on why? Money. Even though EA has games that sell very well, EA is not known

There is a validation server in there somewhere that your simple (though affecitve) visuals is leaving out. Even if its multiple servers that you have an option to choose from, the fact is there is still a company in control of whether or not you get your validation. In my opinion, that's still a problem. As long as I have to remotely ask some machine, regardless of which company owns it, for permission to use my legally purchased game, you're only shifting the control from one busi

That's fine but it doesn't really adress the "What if company X goes away?" question, it's just that company X becomes Stardock instead of the publisher. Of course there's still the "What if I don't have internet access?" group unsatisfied too, but since it's seems more geared for the digital distrubution age I'm willing to leave that as a moot

Well I read on FoxBusiness, I believe, that there was some mention about concerns being address: that if a company goes bust, any games bought from the company are now useless. So if they are still phoning home, needing to connect with a server to activate, then who cares how many places you can download the game from? If there is no server to connect to, having the software won't help you at all (talking legally of course). As for claims for companies' releasing patches to fix this rig

So the validation process still requires that the game phone home, but the intention is there will be multiple homes (companies) to phone home to and hopefully not all of them will go down at once?

How would a story in a sandbox mode even work. You have a randomly generated map, and though you could create a randomly generated story, sounds like a lot of work that would lead to some pretty meaningless, probably even weird, stories. I would think scenarios would be more of what you have in mind and maybe parts of those can have random elements.

Co-op play is extremely important to our group, it's generally the only type of game that shifts us from MMORPGs to stand-alone type games. Alliances are great. I would highly recommend going that route.
