What surprises me is that Elemental was even widely known enough to receive a nomination for most disappointing game of the year on a site like Gamespot. Since I won't pay a company to beta their game, and I won't purchased broken buggy products that are missing advertised features, I couldn't vote for Elemental myself. It isn't going to "win" this dubious award though because the other titles on the list are huge and one of them trying so hard to recover from a terrible la

MMOs are a bit of a different animal in general. Some of them require a lot of research, mostly some of the aged ones, because the in-game support, information is bare and all of it is online. Some of the newer games are a lot better. Naturally, the manuals are pretty much useless due to the nature of the game. EQ 1 required a lot, a lot more research compared to EQ 2, for example. I spent hours just looking up things in EQ 1 while EQ 2 has things like built in recipe books. I don't pla

You don't get to decide what is true and what is false simply because you say so. You cannot possibly have anything backing up your statement about a universal trait about gamers. [quote who="marlowwe" reply="93" id="2836492"] Quoting Nesrie, reply 92 You should never make a blanket statement like this. People play games for different reasons, and you certainly don't have a direct line to all their thoughts. If you carefully reread what I wrote, you will see that I made no claims about reasons for playing. I will repeat what I wrote: Every gamer gets enjoyment out of getting better at a game. [quote who="marlowwe" reply="41" id="2832655"] If it is possible for a gamer to derive fun from the game itself and not from winning then I would argue that the game is poorly designed. I pretty much only play games with friends and family these days for some of the reasons you speak of. Our group isn't so die hard that we try to "ruin" the fun for people. The goal is, after all, to enjoy the game not just destroy each other. If it's a people problem, fix it. Ignore silly things like rankings and play with people you enjoy playing with.
