How about this that you build around a planet as a civilian structure. They would hold populations about as much as a terran planet. This one is kind of Vasari style but the other races would have different ones. Again, I just threw it togther but I will add detail and a texture if you like it.
OMG it is Sins101 reincarnated in several infernal manifestations in ICO. I tried to stop this madness but now it is too late. He will just keep getting stronger and stronger and will not stop until those who wronged him pay for it. https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/340873
He got what he deserved, honest customers that payed $40 for this game should not have their fun ruined by dicks like h

One problem is that your fighting unfair AIs as a noob. If you start with normal or hard you can start to get strategys and get better. Also, you should try the Vasari. I found them easyer when I first started. You might like them better then the TEC.
the mesh "is" the planet. It might be possible to use something else in the well, that is then given another planet, or moon, or oversized asteroid, or asteroid mesh. But to be honest, unless the planet is huge, it will eat up a lot of space, meaning your ships and the enemies will be dodging large bodies in the well as they fight. Which might actually be a very cool thing. -Teal
no, I me
Well... you could make it really really big... Perhaps have one mesh for the star itself and then outside that, have the sphere... I believe that the gravity well is only determined by distance from the center, rather than the outside, so it could work...
I dont know, that is a 300,000,000 kilometer diameter sphere, thats twice the distance between the earth and sun! That thing would litteraly contain the entire inner solar system! I dont even think the average computer
