Nice avatar! yes, Fuel is bought automatically always (like Power) If you are Expansive, all of your new buildings will always be expansive, even if you buy a Scavenger colony. The upgrade costs for the new colonies are persistent, however. The 50 Carbon bonus is just a random player event - like in M.U.L.E.!

Thanks for the feedback. -Your comment about how you have been playing semi-coop makes me wonder if we should have a specific game mode where humans are not allowed to buy shares in each other until the AIs are all bought out. Do you think it would be better if the game just ends when the last AI is bought out and the highest stock price wins, or should the humans still have to buy each other out? - You can see the energy generation rates if you move the "ghost" wind turbine a
great, see you there!
Hi all, I'm going to be hosting a multiplayer game of Offworld on Friday (9/19) at noon EST. First come, first served! Hope to see you there...
Thanks for the feedback - for Scientific, the level of the resource doesn't matter, so you can feel free to use the low resources for your farms and steel mills and so on.
Thanks for the feedback. Geotherms are supposed to work a little differently from the rest of the game. They aren't a "resource" per se, so Slant Drilling doesn't apply to them. Similarly, we tried to help new players not make a bad early move by disallowing any other type of building besides a Geothermal Power Plant. We have been thinking of changing the Offworld Market to a rail gun system, actually, as recommended by a local scientist!
Thanks for the feedback - usually, it's pretty rare that you stockpile over 1000 of a specific resource and - if you do - selling it all has pretty significant diminishing returns.
Hi all, I just detailed our recent changes to the NDA on our company blog: http://www.mohawkgames.com/2014/09/17/talking-about-the-game/ The short version is - go talk about Offworld! We encourage players to talk about their experiences with the game openly, in public. This forum is very useful as a direct line of communication to the developers (I personally read every post), but it should not be the onl
The game rules are available here: http://www.mohawkgames.com/2014/06/16/offworld-rules/ You should be able to found a colony but selecting a type ("Expansive") and then clicking on the map. What went wrong with the tutorial?
The Steam keys go out once per week, so you may have to wait a few days. Sorry about that!
That's been delayed... but we have a different surprise coming soon for people who have pre-ordered.
We are highly influenced by MULE in the game's design. I'd like to think that Offworld is what MULE would look like if it was designed today.
The second key will be for the prototype, so you can play with a friend.
d it sounds like that might get frustrating/random if I'm playing a PC game with strangers on the internet instead of a boa
So far, it's only free-for-all, which means 1v1v1v1v1... It works much better than other RTS games in that format. However, if you don't like having so many different players, 1v1 is totally viable, and I expect a lot of players to play that format exclusively.
I like the sounds of the rule set so far and can't wait to begin playing. I assume the tiles are the game board sections, and a claim is where the player takes control of the tile, similar to the gold rush when miners would take control (stake claim) of a section of river where they thought they would find gold, and would have rights to the section, as long as they continued panning. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Land_claim)&nb
A few questions: -I am not sure I understand the difference between claims and tiles. Am I over-thinking this and a claim is just a player owned tile or is it something different (a group of tiles of specific size perhaps?) -I read that the adjacency of your claim to other tiles impacts the shipment of your goods, does the elevation of the terrain do the same or is that just a factor for the certain types of prod
Hi all, I posted a copy of the game rules (as of today) on our blog: http://www.mohawkgames.com/2014/06/16/offworld-rules/ Let us know your thoughts!
I made some changes today - and you can now giver orders while paused!
We have different game speeds, so you can play very slowly in single-player. We'll think about having pausable orders depending on how the prototype goes.
Very good questions - I almost forgot that you haven't played the game! - I am a huge fan of teamplay in RTS games and never, ever play a standard RTS in free-for-all (FFA) mode. I have to state that preference to show how significant it is that we only like to play Offworld in FFA mode; it's easily the best FFA RTS I've ever played (which is, admittedly, not saying much). The problem with FFA in a typical RTS is that the potential for direct conflict leads to lots of dipl
Where may I find screenshots, concept art and/or a teaser trailer? Seems premature to ask for pre-orders when the website is lacking media of any kind.
We put a lot of stress on putting gameplay ahead of everything else in the design process, so - right now - we have a very fun prototype that looks pretty strange because it's a hodgepodge of placeholder assets, first-pass UI, and a board-gamey terrain system.
