Does that really make sense to you? You know there are graphics options, right, where you can turn the game down to run on weaker systems? Should they have left bloom lighting and high-quality textures out, because only those with a good computer can use them? Of course not.[. . ]
You're forgetting something critically important. The developers were aiming the minimum hardware requirements to be at an ATi 9600 graphics card and 1.8 GHz single core desktop CPU. While all these ex

Congrats to Blair Fraser. :) The list seems pretty fair to me. 100 is a big number and that's one huge list. I guess I wasn't quite aware of how many people there really are out there. However, there's one major mistake. Cliff Bleszinski is rated higher than David Braben. That's got to be a typo or something. For all the hardships David went through with the Roller Coaster Tycoon series, he never ran away to hide or ignored issues. He never publicly trashed the PC market even when migra

I've seen a lot of people complaining about the pace of the game and/or how long some matches can get. I also complained about the length of some matches. However, for those of you who play Single Player, do you realize you can hit + and - to control the speed of the game? (it's actually = and - if you don't have a keypad) You can multiply the game speed up to 8 times faster than fast. It's in increments of 2. For me, this makes singleplayer bouts much more entertaining since there's a lot of ac
I look forward to playing spammers, as they're generally very easy to beat. I see no reason to impose a limit on how many of a certain ship type you build, or to 'ban' spammers - if they want to use a very limited and one-dimensional strategy, it's their funeral.
I completely agree with this! I don't mind playing spammers at all in Sins, particularly if they're spamming long-range frigates. Sins actually has ways to counter spammers unlike games like Starcraft. My first MP game of

I must be the only one not having any issues with defending my planets and thinking that defense is perfectly balanced. But then again, I'm the only one I ever see investing in defense. Having an AI or opposing person jump into one of my systems, get swarmed by 8-10 fighters/bombers, having to deal with defensive turrets and phase disruptors and repair stations, AND having a carrier or other capital ship with small fleet sitting on defense only a planet or two away is normally too much for any o
What the heck do I have to do to have a normal game where maybe, just maybe, I can start off and not everyone on the board hates my guts and wants me to basically buy thier friendship??
When setting up a scenario, lock teams. You can create a free-for-all by doing this or create 2v2, 3v3, 2v2v2, and so on if you'd like. I find this much more fun when playing against/with the AI since if the teams aren't locked, I normally always get ganged up on. This is common in Sins and the

In my personal opinion, carriers are absolutely essential if you're playing as the Vasari. I always have a bunch of them running around if I'm Vasari. For the Advent, I find them to be ok, but nothing special until they get leveled up quite a bit. When it comes to TEC, I do think their carrier is a waste of money. I, too, run around with Kol's and Dunov's just like when I play as Vasari I run around with their equivalent to the Kol (I forget its name) and their carrier (I forget its name too). C
The fact that some people care so deeply about this is exactly why I don't play against strangers on line.
So how do all of us ethical players get together to play matches without the quitting troubles? You're a stranger, I'm a stranger, but it seems neither of us would arbitrarily quit early and unethically.

Press the enter key to chat. After pressing enter, you can hit tab to cycle through the list of players, allies, or all. If you're playing against the AI, I hope it was a comp stomp or something. The AI has a tendency to make things really annoying if it's not on locked teams or a free-for-all.

A ranking/stats system is not going to fix the problem you're describing. I recall the use of a ranking system in Command and Conquer promoted the idea of just cutting your internet connection to make it look like you lost connection. This would result in no win and no loss. If a ranking/stats system is deployed, you'll see more of the same. Also, you'll likely see cheating pop up as stats/ranking systems tend to promote cheating. For such a long game like Sins can be, changing the way

Actually, in some programming languages, if you have a data-type that goes up to 10.0 and you feed it 11.0, it will wrap around to 0.0. Gamespot likely rated the game an 11.0 then. :p I found this out by accident when doing a Java program for a class under extremely restricted circumstances. I completely expected to get an error, but to my surprise my numbers just kept wrapping around. Or, 0.0 could be the look on their faces like AndoSkei said. We all know you have to be weird to work

Try running this game on a 17 inch laptop with 1920x1200 resolution. :p You could see a lot more at 24 inches than what I could at 17 inches. I tried 1920x1200 at first and it was just too hard to play, so I lowered to 1440-something. If you crank up the AA and AF settings to compensate for the lower resolution, it really helps quite a lot without degrading the quality of the graphics.

Whoever is running this forum knows what they're doing. I don't know if any of you have run big websites before, but the most effective administration is the most transparent. If you want to see a demonstration of this, go sign up to become a youth soccer referee. If you miss a call the parents will let you know. If you make a call you shouldn't the parents will DEFINITELY let you know. And if you're just a complete jerk, like some other game company forum administrations are (Epic Game

I've had this issue come up a couple of times in long singleplayer battles with the AI. What tends to happen is that small frigates will swarm around my capital ships and effectively prevent them from turning or getting into position for a phase jump. This commonly happens when I issue a retreat order or manually tell the fleet to move back to another planet. Last night I was playing against 5 AI's and the orange Vasari AI did the swarm thing against my fleet. My smaller ships were able to escap
I'd rate the MP experience for this game at the bottom of all the games I played recently.
Really? Have you played UT3 or Crysis lately? Crysis in particular is infested with hacks like a freeze gun and now a one-hit kill pistol. UT3 has this nasty habit of dropping you because the map took too long to load, plus just trying to connect to a game is an exercise in frustration due to the poor UI design and GameSpy. Sins' multiplayer isn't perfect and I'm sure it will be improved

I spend more time playing Sins than I do on the forums. However, what the original poster is pointing at is systemic of all online forums. I have no idea why that is. They didn't use to be this way, but I guess it would be because so many people have internet these days and gaming has been exploding in terms of revenue and attention. Thus, people from all walks and backgrounds of life now appear online. That's not necessarily a bad thing all the time. It's better just to ignore the peop

I cannot understand why people are having so many problems with the multiplayer. 1) Did you turn on a software firewall, find your network IP address, and switch on DMZ mode to your specific address? Obviously things won't work out if you've got DMZ set to the wrong address. DMZ normally works just as well as port forwarding and is easier to switch on and off. You don't necessarily need to turn on a software firewall, but it may be a good idea in your case. 2) Are you sure that
Just an option to turn them off would be great. Think command and conquer... when you make a game, you can turn off super weapons.
Depends on the version of C&C there. I know in Generals you cannot turn off superweapons. Yes, you can turn off the buildable superweapons, but you cannot turn off all that carpet bombing and general points-based abilities.
