This game will probably make me get a Wii when they come out with a Wii + SSBB package deal. I've missed all the great Mario and Zelda action that just isn't found on those other game consoles. Nintendo cannot be duplicated.
bss08380 I am rather sceptical about the new starcraft. These days, I enjoy RTS's with more depth to them than building a base and spamming a couple hundred zerglings or marines to go entertain my opponants, gameplay wise, not story wise. That is why i enjoy RTS's like Sins or the Total War series, or Supreme Commander. . . .
I completely agree with what you said. That's the same way I feel. I've grown tired of the Starcraft, Warcraft, and Command & Conquer formula

For those of you who have figured out the custom race thing, does your custom race show up as a 4th, 5th, etc. race or does it replace one of the existing races (TEC, Advent, Vasari)? I've been thinking about ideas for mods and may actually start one following the release of 1.03. I've been so wrapped up in building a cross platform game I just haven't gotten around to poking around in Sins' files yet.

Did you try the tutorials? They get you through the basics and then you can go from there. Try having a 4 player map with an AI teammate and use locked teams to pin an AI player onto your side so you can see how the game works. Alternatively, playing against a couple of easy AI's works too. Just be sure to lock teams or you'll get frustrated quickly--the AI likes to gang up on human players when it's unlocked. When you get a bit more comfortable then you can put in the pirates and incre
Well, I just encountered a lovely new strategy today, or rather, a lovely old one in a hyper aggressive form. The LRM blob! Not only did I play a game where I spent two hours fighting nothing -but- LRMS, imagine my consternation when I found out that the players weren't even using upgraded LRMs. All they did was ignore my fleet composed of half assailants and flaks and wail on my buildings until I couldn't tech up anymore. Wow, and here I was thinking Advent was the strongest of all 3 races. You have to remember that this game wasn't particularly designed for competitive players. There's a lot of no-so-obvious strategies you can employ and even more that come to light later on when capital ships gain enough levels. While fleets are still small there's a lot that can be done when it comes to positioning your ships properly. Unfortunately, the "competitive" player I came across instantly accused me of cheating when

I find it highly ironic to find posts praising or anticipating Starcraft when there's so much negativity on this forum about unit spamming in Sins. Starcraft is all about unit spamming, particularly on the Zerg side. All of the preview teasers have featured unit spamming. Zerglings are no different from LRM's or Siege frigates. I cannot recall a Starcraft game I played that featured anything other than spamming. Maybe it's just me, but I've never liked Blizzard strategy games. They all

This actually prevents me from playing Vasari. Ships seem to randomly just stop somewhere and there's times I have to manually hunt them down. The Assailants do this and so do the Sentinels. I normally just build Sentinels instead of Assailants. I do agree that this seems like something that should be addressed, but then again I really don't know how many people play Vasari effectively (I don't). Overall though, I just seem to think Vasari is underpowered compared to TEC and especially

Like I said earlier, campaigns are nice, but they have to feel cumulative. In Rise of Nations you got bonuses in assets and research that built up over time. You weren't always doing a fresh start. You were also able to choose the way you approached taking over the world. That was by far my favorite approach to a single player campaign, although the individual missions themselves were disappointingly shallow unlike those you find in games like Command and Conquer, Starcraft, or others. When some

The list looks good. There's just two comments I have: 1) I don't see why siege frigates got their price and supply cost increased. I've only ever seen the AI use siege frigates. It looks like the AI recode for using siege frigates should take care of whatever problems there were with siege frigates. Those things were really tough though so I don't see anything wrong with reducing their survivability. 2) I'm still hoping for an alternate mods folder in the install directory. :p

There is very little if anything you can do to bypass your ISP's firewall. You'd have to be a skilled programmer to come up with a custom solution to handle routing things differently, and would also probably need the people on the other end to also run the same solution. Is your ISP Comcast? Comcast has a really bad habit of doing these kinds of things. What you should do is try to catch them in a lie. They'll sit there and advertise about how you can go fast, go everywhere, and play y

I've never been big into the campaigns of RTS games. I'm not really sure why that is. However, I find the campaign experience to be much more important in action/FPS games. Backstory can play an important role in all games, yes, but it isn't absolutely required in my mind. There's a lot of give and take. You can trade backstory with other elements of making a successful game. When someone figures out how to create a persistent campaign that evolves over the course of your actions, then I might b

You are probably running a 16x.xx driver. I would upgrade to a 17x.xx driver to eliminate this problem. I used to have it all the time (it was worst in UT3 and did happen in Crysis too) and the 17x.xx drivers got rid of the problem and performance increased. You can downgrade to 15x.xx or upgrade to 17x.xx if you want. It's all up to you. You can find a wealth of performance charts, driver uploads, and tweaks over at [link="http://www.laptopvideo2go.com"]http://www.laptopvideo2go.com[/l

This is an excellent article and shows a lot of real-world business common sense. Not many people have that these days. Dopplegangers is probably my favorite map currently. I don't see what the big deal is about there being problems. Sure things are unfair. Things will never be fair. I built more cobalts than my enemy in 5 minutes. That's not fair to him. I might have an extra metal asteroid and he has an extra crystal. That's not fair either. My opponent is an AI who can issue dozens of commands per second while I have to select, give an order, select something else, and so on to hit that efficiency. That's not

So I've read that spamming will be dealt with and LRM's will likely be nerfed. That, quite frankly, sucks. I think it would be much better to increase the amount of resources required for an LRM and Illuminator. Illuminators in particular get rather annoying how they shoot out their sides giving them 3 effective gun ports. They're still easy for me to handle though. I don't see why they need to be changed except for maybe the price going up a little. I just never seem to have problems dealing wi
This is changing in version 1.03.
Good news! :) When I play TEC I always get these rediculous research backlogs because the research is so slow (as TEC I routinely crowd up the research infocard so it stretches over the entire right side of the screen!). It's not as big as a problem with Advent since their research seems to go so much faster.

Fleet size can be highly useful against TEC and Vasari players. However, you can't throw just sheer numbers at an Advent opponent and expect to win. If I'm playing Advent, the bigger your fleet means the more ship kills I get due to all that damage propagation and retaliation Advent capital ships have. To answer your question though, maximum fleet supply and maximum capital ship slots are applicable to all size maps. You can have the fleet cap on an 8 planet system or a set of stars wit

I have to update my opinion just a bit after a game I had last night. Sova carriers for TEC are much more useful than what I originally thought they were. Normally I build a pair of Kol's and match then up with a Dunov, but last night I built a pair of Sovas and matched them up with a Dunov later on in the game. The Sovas had some issues taking over planets with a lot of neutral ships. I had to jump them in and out of a highly fortified Terran planet a couple of times. Once that Dunov was added

I'm not a fan of turn based games so I normally set Sins on fast or even + up my speed to 2x or 4x during slow periods of gameplay. This only works in single player though and I have played a lot of RTS games in the past. If you don't like such a pace you can slow sins down as slow as you want it to go. If you set the game speed down to slow it's...well, very slow. The addition of being able to pause helps if you really need extra time to give commands. Sins can be fast or slow depending on how

I don't have my Sins CD handy at the moment, but nearly every game has a setup.exe file on it's CD. Just browse to your CD drive and double click the setup.exe program to install. This should work. Alternatively, I think you can type D:\setup.exe into a command prompt or start menu > run. If your CD drive is different than D, then you'll need to put the right letter in there (mine is normally D but it can also be S).

The 169.21 drivers are your problem. I had all sorts of hitching, delays, pauses, and unusual graphical glitches around the edge of my screen when I was running 167.xx - 169.xx drivers. Upgrade to 17x.xx (I run 171.16). You can normally find the 17x.xx drivers over at the Omega Drivers site or Laptopvideo2go.com (these drivers support desktops and laptops).
Now I know this will be alot of work, but is there a possibility of creating a mac version for this game?
"Games for Windows" specifically requires that games not be compatible with competing operating systems, including your Mac. Send Steve Jobs an email and try to get him to create a "Games for Mac" program. This is actually pretty annoying in multi-star maps since the warhead does travel so insanely slow. In single star maps it's your own fault if this happens though. Take your cannons off autocast and fire them manually to avoid hitting yourself. However, they fire sooooo slow across stars that half the time it's easier just to use your fleet. I found earlier that I could have conquered an entire group of 4 planets and left by the time a novalith warhead hit something.
