I dunno. I EXPECT to witness large battles and things in the mid-game when there are a lot of ships out there. If I don't want to see that stuff I'll turn the graphics off for it.

I've noticed that I don't see the ships of minor races. Which is a pity because I'd often like to buy them!
Yes two survey ships stacked did it to me, too. And it was repeatable. I had six of them chasing around the galaxy, so I guess two of them ending up on one spot chasing the same resource was inevitable. Looks like the contention between them locked things up good. Still the Windows key and sending the close command to the task bar button ended the program so it was still listening to the outside.
It's high taxes that kill morale. High spending actually seems to help it a bit. If you can spend at 100% with no taxes your morale will stay way up there and your people will think you're a god! And you'll HAVE to be one to keep that up... But seriously don't forget about trading tech for influence if you're after a cultural victory.
First, the AI's SEEM much more agressive in smaller games. I'm sure that's not really what's happening, but it might pay to dumb them down a bit inverse proportion to galaxy size (number of sectors). The other thing (and I believe someone else noted it) usually at least one of the minor races runs off with all the wonders and tech before I can get around to them.
I found a couple of new bugs (or at least new to me). Once in a while the whole UI goes nuts and stops displaying the tech screen when new tech is acquired while messing up the ship display controls. Then there's the whole problem of at least one of the AI's having runaway technology. This would not be all THAT bad except the game won't let me spy on them. :sniff!: That's right. Setting any amount of espionage against the Alexians sets it against one of the major r
Personally, I LIKE haggling over the price of a deal, but would be happier if the numeric entries for money, months and influence operated intuitively and consistently.
Yep...I was just going to post this one, as it's reproducible. Every time I go to Earth's detail screen I end up looking at my Windows wallpaper. (Win2k Pro).
My first reaction was that this was a joke build that somehow ended up being released as the beta. I always start in a tiny galaxy because you get a good feel for the opposing AI's in a 9-sector galaxy where you are cheek by jowl with them, so to speak. Even with the AI's set to dumb, they are learning tech faster than I can possibly do, even with twice as much population and planet as any of them. They are building constructors right off the bat and I KNOW that one is all *I* can fin
The other nail is that they just released DB2 for Linux. It's clear that there are far more Linux users than OS/2 now and there is probably only room for one Windoze competitor in the Intel market right now. Still, if I ever decide to put my PCBoard BBS back up, it will be Warp 4 and SIO that drive it.
Yep...it's the famous ship-pile bug. To attack a ship you need to stop a space short and come at him on manual. Trouble is, it lets the AI's build up HUGE fleets and lets the pirates get away with murder.
I have a longstanding beef with the way the focus is handled after a ship is launched. It would, I think, be more intuitive if it fell to the launched ship when you exited the planet screen. The autosurvey ignores United Planets laws. Is there any way it could be made to obey them?
And I'd still like to be able to issue a "demand you offer peace to X" thingy in the diplomatic screen. It doesn't have to automatically put me at war with them if they refuse, but it should affect their thinking, if you get my drift.... And I should not get "bad guy" points for going to war if they refuse.
Yeah, what bugged me was the shear amount of influence and the way they started out about even with me in size but gobbled up all these others rather rapidly. It seems technology doesn't actually affect it much because I was WAY ahead of them. I was actually ahead of them on all counts at the end of the game when they "won." That's what sort of puzzled me.
OK, I can understand that, to a point. But I just lost a cultural defeat to an empire that had a FRACTION of my points for military, social, technology, economy, etc. Their approval was at 5%, mine at 56% yet MY people were defecting to THEM? What kind of bullshit is that? At the very least, they should have had a revolution and divided into two or three factions.
You've probably seen most of these already but just in case: 1. The minor races are still too fierce. Whole civilizations are surrendering to them. 2. Ship piles result when ships are set to auto-attack. For some reason they just run on top of the ship they are auto-piloted to, then you have to back off one space to actually attack. This also lets enemy and pirate ships hide from attack. 3. The game still crashes a lot, particularly when shifting races in the Minor
Hmmm.....my Drengins just surrendered to the pirates! And when I attacked the now-pirate world with a transport, the game crashed.
I don't mind my enemies surrendering to someone else out of spite. Usually I can make them mad enough to do that! But yes, peace treaties with teeth would be a plus, as would the ability to issue an ultimatum to some pair of warring idiots. That could be a simple diplomacy thing and tied to the discovery of diplomacy. Just have a menu item in the treaties that says "Demand you offer a peace treaty to X" where X is replaced by the name of a civilization the other one you're talking to is at w
Don't know if this has been mentioned or not, but when you try to look at the Minor Races menu when there are no more Minor Races, the program just exits abruptly with no error message.
I agree with Brad. The game is actually working fairly well at the current stage as what it is fully intended to be. That is a strategy game where you design and build a superior civilization. It's all about resource management!
This build seems awfully stable for me, actually, though I haven't tried everything yet.
The round button in between the two arrow buttons toggles them between "planet" and "system."
One thing I WOULD like to see is, when you're not building anything, the money should revert to the general fund. Unless my eyes deceive me, it now just doesn't go anywhere.
I was happy with the way it was in the OS/2 version--one movement point per shot if I remember.
Not what I meant. DGM has no direct link to this forum. And it's chat doesn't work. It's not dependent on GC.
