I think I'm just going to reinstall. It seems that my problems are largely due to files that, for some reason or another, refused to update.

Yeah, if you're using Vista, you need to stay on top of the drivers, especially the video card drivers. You'll find that Vista will be much more stable and will perform much better with the latest drivers and updates. I recommend checking the video drivers once a month, as nVidia has been releasing updates pretty regularly.

"Another user who reported missing strings found that he had an english.str.tmp file in his directory, and renaming that to english.str fixed the problem." Yup, it appears you're correct: -English.str is 4/19, and there is an English.str.tmp dated 10/1 -Screens.str seems to be fine - it's dated 10/4 Fixed.

Table: Dialog String Name: CivDestroyed . . . and I've been getting a crash right after the statistics screen when it tries to switch to the next scenario in the campaign. I've sent an email to tech support about that.

I like it . One thing I think would improve it: The option to have it automatically save the log to a file at the end of a game. Which doesn't seem to be in there AFAIK - but then again, GalCiv crashes whenever a game ends, and I may have missed it due to the crashing.
